feminist topic (with the topic of abortion making a spec

I don’t like abortion, in fact I hate it. The problem is, it’s logical. You can’t stop people from having sex before they can deal with a child. I know I wouldn’t want a parent or parents that didn’t want me but was forced to have me. Adoption isn’t always as easy as it seems, since there are kids put up at the age of, say… 10, and are still waiting. Many people who have an abortion can’t afford a baby. I get along with po-lifers better than pro-choicers. I think the whole “feminist” argument, (as far as abortion goes), is bull seeing that it’s not only the female’s body, but the babies, (don’t like it… don’t have sex… it’s your body). I KNOW if I were a woman, (or if men got pregnant), I would take responsibility and not use my organs as an excuse, I know a lot of women who do to (excluding rape victims). This feminist stuff isn’t going in the right direction (not contributed by ALL feminists)… first off, I’m SICK of watching commercial where a man and a woman are competing in something and… SURPRISE, the woman wins, (you just KNOW the person behind commercials like that is some big fat conservitve man knowing what he has to do to sell a product). I hear “Girl Power” all the damn time. In most of TV sitcoms, men are morons, and their women bail them out: “Simpsons”, “Everybody Loves Raymond”, Even The Cosby Show… all good shows, but when am I going to see another “I Love Lucy”? I see T-shirts that say “Men Lie” or “Men Cheat” bumper stickers that say the same… Hell, women even have their own section in the book store! They have their own TV station (Lifetime), and what woman that you know of want’s to be associated with old made-for-TV movies and reruns of Unsolved Mysteries?? I also think same sex relationships are more excepted for women than men. Two women kissing on a magizien cover, it’s “hot”, two men…“ewww”. Just remember, when I complain about these things, I’m not complaining to women… just everyone involved. Now don’t get me wrong, I think women have a long way to go in order to be considered equal, but the key word is “equal”. People are taking advantage of the women’s movement and making money off of it… I think equal pay is something we should shoot for here. Like I said before… not all feminists are to blame… I think a lot of people claim to be feminist, but don’t know what it is. The REAL established feminists, I think, have a better idea of what’s going on.

I think kids have it worst than anyone... smaller boys might think they are "bad", or "goofy" when they see these things. When I was in my pree teens, I would see women on TV TRASH men. My mother has friends over... TRASHING MEN. My father does all the cooking and cleaning and he works... !? I took it to heart, and I don't want my kids to. Whether It's men bashing women, or women bashing men.

BTW

The title was supposed to be: feminist topic (with the topic of abortion making a special guest appearance)

Um, was there a GD in there somewhere? On whether male-bashing is okay? On whether it is feminist? On why there are ‘special’ areas for women-related things (tv, bookstores) and not for men? On whether abortion is okay? … Or was that just a rant? (maybe for the Pit?)

Puzzled as to how to respond…

OK, cool, I can put it in the pit…

will people take it off this board?

This is my second time…

S’okay, a mod will handle it, I’m sure. You aren’t the first to put it in the wrong forum!

(as a pit rant, I know exactly how to respond!) Ticks me off NO END to have to listen to women say things about men that they would never dream of tolerating if said by a man about women… and don’t even get me stared on how offensive women can be around male dancers, such as male belly dancers - we’d be horrified and outraged if men behaved like that with a female dancer, but we’re justified in trying to grab body parts or kiss a male performer? AHHHH!

MyFootsZZZ, although your OP was all over the place and a little editing for concision would have made for a better debate (as opposed to a rant), I’m glad you made that point. I for one don’t see the necessary linkage of feminism and abortion. Especially considering at least half of babies aborted are female, and especially considering mostly female babies are selectively aborted in India and China, which is no less than an anti-feminist holocaust.

I’m not gonna rant. Just want to say that I feel passionately feminist, and I don’t side with either the pro-lifers or the pro-choicers (mainly because the topic of abortion is so personally painful to me, I don’t want to hear about it at all. Everybody just shut up about it already, please). This is the only time I’m gonna post anything on the subject at all. I was in a Green Party local meeting, as we were discussing whether to include pro-choice as one of our core principles. We reached a consensus that there are Greens (like me) who are profoundly uncomfortable with abortion and we shouldn’t commit them to it. I was so glad they understood this.

There are pro-life feminists out there, and no, that is not an oxymoron.

My favorite feminist bumper sticker:
“EVE WAS FRAMED.”
