Authorities are searching for the person or group responsible for sending suspicious letters, some of which contained fentanyl, to election offices in at least five states this week.
This incident has delayed counting ballots in some local races and is the latest example of the threats faced by election workers across the country. This incident was reported to the election officials on Thursday.
Several letters were sent to the election offices in Georgia, Nevada, California, Oregon, and Washington, the Associated Press reported. Some of these letters were intercepted before reaching their destination. According to a statement by the FBI and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, four of the letters contained fentanyl.
Makes me want to volunteer at my election office. Bastards.
The letter contained a warning about the vulnerability of “ballot drops” and read: “End elections now. Stop giving power to the right that they don’t have. We are in charge now and there is no more need for them.”
Well, based on that, it was surely a liberal that did it, so I guess we don’t need to investigate anyone with a Trump/MAGA flag in their front yard.
Lets see how long it takes before the authorities track it back to the post office or mailbox where it was dropped and we get surveillance video of the suspect realizing they just did that on camera.
I’m assuming this was done by multiple people and the person that mailed the baking soda chickened out (or couldn’t get any fentynal), but will end up in jail regardless.
Based on the nutty nature of the message, I’m guessing it came from a solitary nut.
My intuitive order of probability:
Solitary left-nut
Solitary right-nut (posing as left nut)
Small group of right nuts (posing)
Small group of left nuts
Small public right-wing organization (still nutty)
Looks like Brad is into the meme about casual exposure to fentanyl posing a deadly risk, though the article makes clear that’s not a realistic possibility.
Overreacting to a potential exposure is one thing. Keeping a couple doses of Narcan in an office where someone attempted to harm people with fentynal, at least to me, doesn’t seem like a bad idea.
I would be really surprised if it’s a left nut. The threat reads like what a right-winger thinks a left-winger thinks like, not what any lefty I’ve ever encountered (and hoo boy have I encountered some ridonkulous lefties in addition to the excellent ones) thinks like.
If it said something like “end kkkorporate politics” or “your colonial government is illegal on native land” or “divest now,” I’d be a little more willing to believe it was a left nut. But as it is? Nah.
Tell #1 is the pentagram. Lefty goth whackadoodle? Well, maybe. But the right is far more inclined to believe conspiracy theories about the whacko left being interested in all things occult and potentially Satanic, than the whacko left is to actually be interested in such things.
Tell #2 is the line - "We are in charge now and there is no more need for them.” I mean, I would guess that perhaps 0.0012% of the nutty left actually believes they are in charge of anything. That’s literally the opposite of the complaints of virtually all leftist radicals. However right-wing loons do seem to commonly believe in the Deep State nonsense, where leftists secretly manipulate the levers of power in their unending war to end elections and usher in an apocalyptic vision of a homosexual America where apple pie is banned forever.
