Fenway Park - Grandstand or Bleachers

My colleagues and I have a trip up to Boston next month. We are generally looking for the cheap seats probably since the guys don’t care for baseball all that much.

Looking to find out which seats are least bad. I see grandstand and bleachers for about $40. Is there any particular section you would recommend or warn us about? I am guessing that its better to be higher up from a viewing perspective, but more experienced Fenway folks may have different opinions.

Just a thought from a guy that’s a huge fan of baseball wherever and whenever it’s played:

If the guys don’t care for baseball all that much, why Fenway?

That seems to me like a bunch of baptists taking the Vatican City tour.
MBG - the White Sox fan who even visits Wrigley a couple times a year, which by the way is a much bigger dump than Fenway will ever be.

Because they wanted to say they had gone to Fenway I guess. Doesn’t matter whether they come or not since I am a baseball fan and was going anyway. But since they said they wanted cheap seats, I guess I can meet them halfway.

There are standing room only tickets for Fenway. Regular seats at Fenway are really expensive, the SRO’s…not so much. (sorry)

Cheap and Fenway don’t really go together. Bleachers would allow for you to get a good taste of the atmosphere, but are pretty uncomfortable to sit for 3 hours if you don’t really care what is going on.

All games are sold out - they have been for years. You’ll need to either buy from the online agencies, scalpers outside the park, or get SRO seats that are released before games. Personally, I’d go for Grandstand since it’s really hard to follow anything out in the bleachers.

But none of these options are cheap. Expect to spend a minimum of $50/ticket, probably a bit more. If it’s a popular opponent (like the Rays now, or the Yankees anytime this century) you can double the price.

On the other hand, if they’re not baseball fans, sitting in the bleachers is as good a place as any to drink expensive beer and eat expensive hot dogs, and be able to say you did later. Plus, you might get a home run ball! Bleacher seats aren’t really any less comfortable than anywhere else at Fenway, unless you’re thinking of sun and rain. They seats everywhere at Fenway are pretty much all designed for the days when fewer people had, um, Ruthian physiques.

They also have tickets for seats released before games also at the ticket window, not JUST Standing Room Only. Depending on the team they’re playing it can be quite the camp out though.

Some of the grandstand seats are really, really, really horrible, plus there’s the possibility of the dreaded “obstructed view.” I say go for the bleachers and just enjoy it for what it is…

You’re not in the military, are you? If so, you can buy a pair of good seats the day of the game for $10/each.

That’s weird. I grew up in Montgomery County, PA.

Anyway, I’d say go for the bleachers. At least they face the field of play (except when they don’t). Many of the grandstand seats are not aligned with the baseball diamond. Not comfy. Some of the bleacher seats are actually quite nice (have a good view).

Stubhub has bleachers and grandstand 4 and 5 for $37-$45

Speaking from experience, grandstand sections 4 and 5 are wretched. They face the bleachers, not the field.

Sections 4 and 5 are pretty poor if you want to see anything going on the field.

If the game itself isn’t all that important, you may want to just take a tour of the Park. It’s $20, and the guide will take you through the press box, and other seating while talking about the Red Sox history and traditions.
