Neither due process, evidence, nor guilt ever mattered in this case. A cop killed a black guy, therefore he wasn’t going to be punished. Whether it was murder or self defense or accident never mattered to the outcome; only that it was a black guy and a cop.
Randomly terrorizing black people has been part of the job of the American police for as long as they’ve existed. Sometimes openly, sometimes not. When a cop kills a black guy, he’s doing part of what he was hired to do; making sure that the second class citizens know their place and that their lives have no value. Rubbing it in their faces that they aren’t considered human. The courts always go out of their way to make sure black people know they are regarded as subhuman.

Besides, there wasn’t any “due process and fact finding”. There was no trial, there was a grand jury, which doesn’t need or usually bother with that sort of thing to indict someone. There’s an old saying that grand juries will indict a ham sandwich, their standards are so low - but they won’t indict a cop for killing a black guy here.
