Hubby and I take a car ferry to visit his folks a couple times a month. I’ve noticed that loading and unloading varies, and I can’t figure out why.
They all have about the same capacity, and are laid out the same way.
They have four lanes in the center. (This is two levels high to accomodate tall vehicles) On the same lever as the center lanes, but separated by bulkheads are two side lanes on each side . Above those are two lanes on each side at mid level.
The third level is for walk ons.
Above that is the bridge and below the main car deck is the engine room.
They often, but not always, load half the center lanes then the upper sides, then the lower sides and last the rest of the center.
When they load this way, they unload center, lower sides, then upper sides.
At other times they load all the center, lower sides, then upper sides.
Recently, they loaded both side levels then the center, but unloaded center, lower upper.
Is there a reason for the different configurations, or is it just a way to keep things interesting?
Thanks.
