As a neutral this is kind of a bummer.

Credit to Japan for not crumbling like Brazil men did vs. Germany. As long as the US don’t get complacent they will be fine.
That first half was outrageous. The Japanese forgot to show up. They started to play later, but coming back from 4-0 is virtually impossible, especially with Lloyd still attacking. She could easily have had 5 right now.
And you can’t blame Hope Solo for not making that save. She was teed up from 5 meters by an open player. She did well just to get a hand on it.
Wonder how the shadows and sun will play in the second half.
The way it was disappearing in the first half, I would think the whole field should be in shadow by the second half; might be a bit of sun around the goal, so good defense the first 15 minutes should see the field clear.
About as good a 15 minutes that you could ask for; now they need to get another early in the second half to re-establish the 4-goal cushion and get Abby into the game.
Oh, and from a referee’s standpoint, best officiating crew I’ve seen all tournament.
