Fighting the blahs

I’ve been on anti-depressants, but I’ve been sans insurance for over a year so I haven’t been able to afford to stay on them. I just got insurance back, so I need to get to the doctor and get back on them. Until then, I’ll just turn to all these other ideas to chase the blahs away.

And, Ty, that was something I needed. Having met you, this brings lots of scary visions to mind!

On the off-chance that anyone is in a similiar situation as me, stuck on a small, isolated, rural college campus without a car:

Find some kind person who will let you borrow their car. One day when you can afford it, skip class and go driving off campus. Even if you didn’t think you were sick of campus, even if you didn’t think you missed driving, even if you can only get a few miles down to the next bumfuckville town - you’ll feel better as soon as you get out on the road. Seriously. Can’t recommend it enough.

King of Spain, I agree with you. I treasure a memory I have of my carless, dorm existence, when my roommate let me borrow her convertible bug, and we went dashing madly across the countryside, just looking at farms, horses, and even the state Capitol.

For the blahs – renting Singing in the Rain helps! A couple weeks after September 11, I needed it. If you can, rent a 6- and 4-year-old too. Watching it with my kids made it even better!

i also recommend wearing ridiculous socks that make you laugh! (toe socks are really amusing)
