file sharing and 'accelerate' button

hello everyone.

on a file-swapping program i’m using, [name deleted by me] (rhymes with ‘five-ish’ (kinda)), there is a button marked ‘accelerate’. what the hell does it do?

how could i make the uploader’s computer transfer faster? i couldn’t, right? not without drastic measures?

so what does this button do? does it make the intermediate server speed up? the fuck?

I’m not familiar with the program you don’t mention, however, one guess might be that it devotes a greater percentage of your bandwidth to the download. This would only matter if you’re downloading/uploading multiple files at the same time. Does it actually seem to have an effect?

It’s probably searches for multiple users to download the same file at the same time from. Like the “find more sources for download” option on one of those that rhymes with Kazaa.

I believe the program farley is talking about is iMesh. I’ve only used it a couple times, but I noticed that it doesn’t just find more sources, but actually increased the speed by about 10kB/s the first time, and doing nothing the second time. (Maybe you can use it only once in a while or so? I doubt it, but I’d like to know the answer too.)
