Filezilla help question

I need to copy a folder full of images to another directory. Not move; make another copy. I can’t figure out how to do this except by downloading all hundreds of images to my harddrive and then uploading all of them again to the other directory. Filezilla’s help wiki is no help, and I can’t seem to do it logically: copy paste, copy drag, etc.

A little help here? Thanks.

I don’t think FTP lets you do that directly.

Does your FTP host let you access your files through any other means? Shell (SSH) access or a web-based file manager, perhaps?

Actually, this page talks about the FTP command “proxy” which might let you open another connection to the same server and effectively turn it into a client, letting you “download” from the server to itself.

I’ve never used this method, though, so I can’t help you. Sorry.

I don’t know, I’m new at this. Can you tell me how to do that? Thanks.

Which company hosts your files? (Who do you connect to over Filezilla?)

Echoing reply (hee!): Copying on the server is not supported by the FTP protocol. However, if your server allows SSH access, SSH FTP (SFTP) is also handled by FileZilla, and I believe that will let you do the copy you’re trying to do.

godaddy

Can you splain to me how? Much appreciated.

According to GoDaddy, you should be able to login to your account on their website (not FTP) and use their online file manager to copy folders.

See this help entry for more info. I don’t have a GoDaddy account so I can’t tell you the exact steps, but they do seem to have a 24x7 tech support number: (480) 505-8877.
