Fill out your Marvel Superhero/Villians football roster.

So I got thinking that it would be fun to put together a football team made entirely of Marvel Heroes on one team and villians on the other. I realize that some characters powers can make the play lopsided or impossible so I’m laying these ground rules for the roster:

  1. Anyone can play BUT…

  2. No superpowers are allowed that remove the ball from the field of play (disappear/teleport etc…) though people with those powers can still play, they just can’t use them. The ball can only be thrown/passed/kicked as in a regular football game.

  3. No one can damage the ball in anyway (burn/shoot/smash etc…)

  4. Unlimted powers, for the sake of this exercise are generally limted so as to make the field still playable, for instance Hulk does not have infinite strength, but he is just really powerful and big and Juggernaut is a powerful RB, but can still be stopped in some way etc… So no one is infinitely fast/strong/etc.

  5. Flying is a no no. Only running passing and kicking.

  6. No gods or any of those super beings that live in space. Just (somewhat) normal sized humanoids (under 12ft tall etc…) to make is as realistic as a comic book football game could be.

  7. No mind reading to steal plays etc…

If anyone else can think of any other pseudo-rules that would need to be in place to make this somewhat managable please chime in.

You can have 1 hero team and 1 villian team, can’t mix and match.

So my wife is bugging me and I will come back with my lineup later or tomorrow morning but I’m interested to see what other people can come up with.

This much I know right now: Nick Fury Hero coach, Dr. Doom villian coach. Both smart and strong leaders who can manage a battle (football) field.

Lets see what you’ve got and try to stay within the spirit of this thread. I don’t want to see people pull out some obscure character that has some power I didn’t explictily cover that makes the game, as played in america, unplayable.

I’ll see you later with my roster!

What about invisibility, superspeed and teleportation?

Bullseye has to be the QB and the Blob the center for the villains.

Just a couple to suggest for now

Villains linebacker: Abomination

Heroes receiver: T’Challa

Villians WR…Terrell Owens.

Invisibility yes, with the exception that the ball cannot turn invisible with the carrier, but the carrier can turn invisible to run their route or whatever.

Superspeed yes, but as said above not infinitely fast. Like quicksilver would be fast but wouldn’t be running .001 sec 40s or something.

No teleportation as stated above.

My hero team would be as follows (I’m not in touch with Marvel characters of the last 15 years or so so these are mostly oldies:

DLine/OLine: These guys would play both ways since they are super and all so I would say (all based on strength and size):

Center/Nose - Hulk
Guards/Tackles- Thing/Colossus/IronMan/Henry Pym

QB: Captain America. He’s been throwing that shield for years sso should have good accuracy. He should also be able to rally the team onthe field due to his leadership abilities.

RB: Wolverine/Spiderman/Beast. They are all quick and can take a hit and keep going, which I think is more important than being fast as a RB

WR: Mr. Fantastic/Quicksilver(didn’t he turn into a good guy?)/Sue Storm. Sue can turn invisible and run her route and throw up a FF when it’s time to get hit. Mr. F can catch just about anything with his stretchy arms. Quicksilver should be able to burn any corner running streaks over and over.

Safety: Daredevil. He can use his sonar vision to see everyone on the field, even if they are invisible so he can cover the deep end of the pool.

Kicker: Hmm…I’m sure there is some sort of character from the 60’s or 70’s whose power was kicking things hard. I’ll have to get back to you on this one.

That’s my hero roster. I’ll be back later with baddies.

(Yeah, I don’t see how it could be anyone other than Bullseye for villian QB but doesn’t everything he throws also kill the “target”? Don’t want dead recievers)

I have to disagree with Spider-Man as a RB. Since everybody is limited to staying on the ground, Spidey’s main contribution is his agility. I’d prefer to play him as a defensive end or outside linebacker – have him blitz, stunt-rush, or drop back into short-pass coverage as needed. (After further thought, maybe Spidey is an ideal kicker. He could probably punt the ball from goalline to goalline.)

There’s no way Dr Doom or any other Villain coach would stoop so low as to recruit Terrell Owens for their team. Even supervillains have limits.

How could you possibly leave out NFL Superpro?

Oh.

Yeah.

I think I’d put Longshot as the Kicker. For the luck AND the name.

Is Superman allowed? 'Cause Supes would make a badass strong safety.

Seeing as Superman is a DC character (like Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, the Flash, etc.), and this is a Marvel Superhero/Villains thread, I’m guessing no.

I’m surprised there isn’t already a DC counterpart thread though.

What if you told Nightcrawler to teleport to the back corner of the endzone and the ball would be thrown to that spot in anticipation of his being in position when the ball got there?

Also, I think Vision could throw a pretty good stiff arm.

Colossus - full back
The Thing - center
Mr. Incredible - wide out
Wolverine - linebacker

Legal.

I should have more specifically said that flying and teleporting can be used, just not on the ball, ie you can’t fly with the ball and can’t teleport with the ball but you can fly TO the ball and teleport TO the ball.

I’m guessing if you have flying recievers you would need flying safeties or backs to bump them from their routes while they are in the air.

Complex stuff.

Mr. F could stretch the ball into the endzone from anywhere.

Storm could make it snow or call down lots of fog during the opponent’s drives. Is that cheating?

Lots of work for Rogue, Magneto, Storm, and Nightcrawler then.

Gambit, get your ass back on the sideline and lead a cheer or something.

Whoops! Forgot it was Marvel only. Damn! Nobody in Marvel really compares; Thor, maybe? Hulk’s really not got the finesse.

Would Layla Miller be allowed as a coach?

Quicksilver is currently nuts and technically a villain again. And he’s currently time manipulation, not speed, though that’s probably more helpful since he can essentially copy himself however many times.

researches up American Football Ok, I think i’d go with;

O/DL: Mr Fantastic/the Thing/Colossus/Rockslide/Tag if we’re allowed people other than current ones.

QB: I’d go with Cyclops over Cap because Cap’s used to the shield, while Cyclops has generally excellent aim as a power (I think).

RB: The Hulk/Spiderman/Echo.

WR: Daredevil/Captain America.

Safeties: Jamie Madrox/Nightcrawler.

You know that the villian coach would be Bill Belichick. And he would choose TO, to go with Randy Moss, and maybe bring Michael Irvin out of retirement. Guess who would QB?
