Films You Have To Wait Until AFTER The Credits To See The Ending

Just saw Zack And Miri Make A Porno…not great, but decent film with some laughs.
For some reason, I figured there would be “more” after the credits, so my SO and I waited. We were the ONLY people in the theater at that point and, yep, the film continued and you were finally able to see what happened with Zack and Miri. Probably 5 minutes more of the film and it answered everything.

It sort of pisses me off when they do this without warning… I mean, there were probably another 100 people in that theater who left without knowing how the film really ended, and we only stayed because of a hunch I had.

I waited to the end of Dreamgirls credits to see that final scene.
Also waited after credits and saw the final scene of The Producers (musical version) with Mel Brooks.

So, what other films have I missed that continued on after the credits?
(And damn them for not at least hinting you should hang around to see those scenes!)

Idiocracy has a post-credits scene where super-pimp Upgrayedd (with two D’s for a double dose of his pimpin’) gets out of one of the tricked-out army coffins and vows “I’m gonna find this ho.” It doesn’t add much to the movie but it’s hilarious that Rita was right about him finding her.

I think it would be hilarious if he catches up to her in a sequel and demands all the money she owes him plus interest and she busts out one of those multimillion dollar bills without blinking.

Iron Man has an after-credits scene introducing Nick Fury and SHIELD, with some big pointers about how the franchise will develop.

Pirates of the Caribbean had a ‘ten years later’ scene after the credits. Young Sherlock Holmes had a scene explaining the origin of Moriarty. Napoleon Dynamite had his brother’s wedding. A lot of comedies just have outtakes. I always stay til the end of the credits just in case, but I can’t think of any that would be considered the ‘real ending’. Mostly they are just an interesting scene, maybe with a twist, or a short epilogue. I don’t think they compete with the pre credits ending - they are just a little something extra to reward people who stay.

I’m betting there was something after the credits in Role Models, which I saw yesterday; I would have stayed, but the party I was with wanted to move on.

Would you say it’s just a stupid gimmick now? It’d be different if movies didn’t have such long credits these days.

I don’t think they qualify as “final scenes”. but, in addition to the above, the following films have post-credit scenes:

Adventures in Babysitting
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

All of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies
The Howling has a clip from The Wolfman

This site apparently is devoted to such things:

I’ve started waiting till the credits are finished on most movies I see just in case. I end up feeling stupid when I sit through 5 minutes of credits and nothing comes after it.

Hmm, maybe they should have an indicator on IMDB or something about that.

I usually check this board to see if people are mentioning an after-credits scene! Then I know to wait for it.

I nearly always stay to the end. I stayed for Zack and Miri but I did leave Madagascar II but I was looking forward to the end of that anyway.

*Airplane *was another that had a final gag plus gag credits.

SenorBeef, I believe there is. It usually makes it way into the Crazy creditslink.

The latest Hulk movie has a bit after the credits as well.

Dawn of the Dead (2004) - the story continued during the credits with the ultimate fate of the remaining characters revealed after the credits.

I think Wild Things sets a record for after (during)-credits action. The *whole movie *changes if you stick around until the end.

Max Payne had a extra ending after the credits,

That’s the one I came in to mention. I was talking about the hopeful ending with my daughter, and she said “You turned it off too soon.”

It’s been years since I’ve seen it, but after the credits for The Muppet Movie I remember a short scene with Animal telling the audience “Go home!”

Michael Haneke’s Caché does something similar. Luckily my film teacher told us to concentrate on the credits. Although, even then I didn’t catch it.

It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World

Dodgeball.

“Fucking Chuck Norris”

For that matter, practically every film until the late 1970s or so.

DMark:

Can you spoil what happens after the credits in Zack and Miri? I enjoyed the movie, but not enough to see it again just to catch the last five minutes.
