Filter out games in online stores

I have an Apple tablet and an Android phone. On both devices I never play games, period, amen.

When I go to either app store to find an app I’m inundated by games & (especially on Apple) music. Search is almost useless since every search term brings back a thousand games and a dozen non-game apps.

Is there a setting or a search term on either store I can use to say “I don’t want to see items categorized as games in my search results”? Funny enough, the Windows app store gets this mostly right. But I gave up on my WinPhone due to, you guessed it, lack of apps.

As you might imagine trying to search for info about how to avoid searching for games is an exercise in futility. Every game that has avoiding something as a game play feature or any game that has a negative review {“avoid this game it’s teh suxxor!1”) comes back. Uggh!

I’m not familiar with either store, but it might help to try adding “-game” to your search terms. In some search engines, the minus means “Leave out these results.”

(Since nobody has replied yet, I thought I’d toss this in, at least for the bump.)

For the apple app store there are filters at the top of the search screen (after you have searched) that allow you to select a category.
