How to weed out Hidden Object games?

Hi All,

I tried to Google this, but I guess I didn’t manage to enter the salient terms.

I want to browse Adventure games in the (Apple) App Store to find a classic-type adventure game (like Gabriel Knight or Broken Sword) or two to play on my upcoming vacation. However, it seems that at least 80% of games listed under “Adventure” are Hidden Object games (games where you’re given a list of objects to find and tap on a screen crowded with many objects), which are not what I’m presently looking for.

If all you had to do was glance at the name or description to see what kind of game it was, that wouldn’t be too bad, but more often than not, the brief description is unclear in that regard. So, you have to click to read the expanded, more detailed description to ascertain whether or not it’s yet another HOg. Then you have to click “Done” to get back out to get to the main screen to go on to the next title.

Doing that over and over, only to find another Hidden Object game, gets kind of annoying.

So, would anyone know of a way I can enter search terms in the App Store to include Adventure games but exclude the Hidden Object variety, so that I don’t have to weed through so many?

Thanks

I’m not familiar with the app store, but it wouldn’t surprise me if you can’t. You can’t do this sort of thing on Steam, which is a source of constant irritation for me. “I’d like a puzzle game, but NOT a puzzle-platformer” is just not something their search engine understands, and they have a heavily tag-based organizational scheme, so you may be SOL. =/

Thank you for replying, Airk. Yes, that’s what I’m beginning to think, too :frowning:

There might be a third-party site that reviews and classifies games, that would tell you what you want to know; but if there is, I don’t know about it.

For what it’s worth, there have been a couple threads in the past asking somewhat similar questions: see here and here.

Thanks, Thudlow Boink. I’ll try out those links.

The App Store itself is something of a Hidden Object game. You just can’t escape!

Ha! Very true:)
