I’ve never played the game, but I saw the movie a couple of nights ago, and it left me with a burning question. I tried to dismiss it, because it’s just Final Fantasy, you know? But I just can’t take it any longer:
WHY do people die when one of the “ghosts” touches them? I don’t remember that ever being explained.

Just kidding… IIRC when one of the phantoms touch you, you lose your “spirit” and you die. Remember when they charged through that one guy? His spirit flew out behind him, and his body plunked to the ground.

Yeah, but the point is, I don’t understand why that happened. For example, at the very end, the ghost touches the guys hand, and the guys spirit is yanked out…just from a little finger-brushing???
Maybe it was never explained and I’m just supposed to accept that’s the way it is…if so, OK.
Bizzare freakin’ movie, though. I dig it.
I liked to think of it like taking candy from a baby. These things were only spirits, and the rest of us didn’t even think we had one, so how would we even begin to defend ourselves?
I gathered it was more like a virus effect. Only a touch will do you in–the main character was “infected” after all.
