Has anyone played this game yet? I’m a sucker for anything Final Fantasy related, but from what I’ve seen this is a first person shooter, a genre of games that I despise.
So, can anyone give me a thumbs up or thumbs down on this one?

Ew, is it a shooting game? I too would welcome confirmation of this. Dammit, I had high hopes for this one.
Yeah, it’s a shooting game. The reviews I’ve seen haven’t been favorable. It looks like it might be worth renting for the story though.
Per the Tomatometer the game is at a 0% positive. I’ll probably not play it. As much as I liked FFVII, I didn’t care for Vincent Valentine so much that I’d play a game likely to be horrible just to find out what happened to him after it all.
Huh. I was ready to get this game, until I heard it was a shooter. VV was my favorite FFVII character, but I’m not playing through a shooter to find out his story.
Can’t be any worse then that movie that put out.
I’ll probably get it when it’s cheap. And when I finish the Ratchet & Clank and Prince of Persia series.
The FFVII movie, not the plain old Final Fantasy movie which was alright.
It was good for what is was: pure fanservice.
That said, I won’t be rushing out for this game either. Then again I haven’t rushed out for a game in ages.
Hey, fanservice is the bread and butter of the whole damn industry. Final Fantasy X-2, anyone?*
And Advent Children kicked ass, despite having no discernible plot.
*Yeah, I actually kinda sorta really like this game and play it often. Unlike the boys I know, I’ve actually beaten it instead of resetting every time I get to the Lesbian Massage Mission.
The review I read summed it up best: Get it if you’re a final fantasy VII fan.
It needed more of the other kind of fanservice. And a Shiva summon would have helped that. And the ability to see all the character models turn in slow motion as an extra.
Even though this game is a shooter I bet it will be chock full of movies. It can’t be that hard to move through it.
Heh-heh, Amazon.com(or Square) are still calling the PS2 next-gen. The review there are pretty mediocre too. Doesn’t sound like a $50 game.
Okay, that’s pretty depressing. It used to be that you could count on Final Fantasy games to be really kick ass RPGs. These sequels they’ve been releasing are just ruining it. I might have to turn to World of Warcraft for my RPG needs.
Not an FPS - the default view is 3rd person. The game plays much, much more like Devil May Cry than, say, Quake. I’ve heard reviewers say you can pretty much make it through the game with Vincent’s physical moves, not even the gun.
Personally, I’m playing through it for the plot and seeing characters I want to see. Then again, I’ve been totally immersed in FFVII fandom for the last 7 years, so…
They are turning RPG s into shooter games. Cheaper to make and they capitalize on the old titles. You have to be careful now . A good RPG is hard to find. xbox 360 doesn’t push them at all. Romance of the 3 kIngdoms became a shooter.
