Final Futurama Box Set out today!

Only funny line in the Simpsons this year…

"Why did they cancel Futuramaaaaaaaa?"

At least they’re still publishing the Futurama comic book.

Second Trade Paperback Collection due out within 30 days.

There’s also the one where Bender falls asleep in the torpedo tube and gets shot out into space. Leela says that they can’t catch up because they were going at top speed and Bender was shot faster than that. It’s * wrong *, but at least they tried

Well…maybe they were low on fuel, and Leela knew that even if all the fuel was spent, they would still not have reached a fast enough speed to catch Bender.

Maybe. Was Nibbler on board?

I’m not seeing it- what’s wrong here?

[li]Bender is not accelerating after leaving the launch tube. He has no motor, & is going on inertia.[/li][li]The spacship has a motor.[/li][li]In the airless, frictionless, zero-gravity of space, if you keep pouring power into your acceleration, you will continue to gain velocity.[/li][li]Ergo–the only thing they had to do to catch Bender is go after him. Hell, they could have cut power to the motors down to 10% of max, & still caught him![/li][/ol]

Oh, and the ship is FTL capable. So, it’s faster than anything in normal space.

Wait don’t forget how the Planet Express ship’s engines work. They move Space around them therefore they can not continually excelerate as normal thrusters would.

No, going FTL is impossible. That’s why scientists increased the speed of light in 2208.

borschevsky, you beat me to it. Indeed, the Planet Express ship is NOT capable of FTL travel, at least, not at the new, current speed of light in the year 3000. However, when it went back in time to Roswell, NM, it was briefly going FTL (since I assume the supernova was many light years away from Earth when it exploded.)

I love the series, but why is the style of the packaging for the 4th season so different than the other 3?

Well the ship doesn’t move at all. The engines cause the universe to move around the ship.

Well, yeah, the ships not moving, but it’s still traveling. That is, it’s changing it’s location in the universe. It’s not moving, but still traveling at FTL for that little bit of time in 1948.

Spare me your space-age techno-babble, Genghis Khan.

Are you calling me a Khan-man?

I’ve been watching the last few episodes of the series and I continue to be amazed by how good they were. By the time these shows were being written, the writers knew the series was canceled. But they were apparently inspired rather than demoralized by the impending end. Maybe they just threw in all the good ideas they had that they had originally planned to save up and spread out across several seasons.

One thing I don’t understand is the continued rivalry between Family Guy and Futurama. I see so many people who seem to feel it’s necessary to prove their devotion to one of these shows but knocking the other. They were both great shows. With so many truly crappy series on the air, why do we need to promote a war between two of the few good ones?
