Finally back on the rock

Several years ago I was fairly good at rock climbing and rappelling. I could lead climb easy to moderate type stuff, up to say a 5,7 or so, and felt comfortable top roping to say a 5.12…

When I moved to Las Vegas the moving truck managed to eat all of my climbing equipment (funny how trucks do that, and hell I packed it all myself…)

two years go by and I’ve finally started putting another rack back together. I got a climbing book to refresh stuff I knew before. Yesterday I decided it was time to get back on the rock.

Myself and a friend went to a picnic area just out side of Red Rock Canyon and climbed a easy 5.4 crack about 60 ft or so up a solo bolder. The climb went fairly well and easily, and it is always fun to sneak a peek back over your shoulder and see where you’ve been, and maybe back out at the city behind me. While there we ran into three people from out of town who came to Vegas just to climb. We setup a top rope and climbed for about 3-4 hours, having a great time. I had forgotten how easy it is to meet people climbing, and how the vast majority are very easy going, and a joy to hang out with.

It sure does feel good to be back on the rock.
