Finally some promising news on my employment frontiers

I resisted taking the state Office Drones exam for quite a while because any of the jobs would mean a substantial pay cut from my last job, but I finally caved and took the test in early July.

I just got my test results Monday. I am ranked 139 in the state, but I don’t know if it’s 139 out of 140, or 139 out of 140,000. The better news is that I’ve already been solicited to apply for a state job based on the results. The worse news is that it’s half-time, at the lowest pay scale of the jobs I’m now eligible for, and it’s about 150 miles away in Green Bay. So I won’t be applying.

Still, considering that I haven’t got an interview in six months, it’s the best news I’ve had in quite a while. I took another test several months ago for the position “Training Officer” and was ranked 10th in the state, and that’s gone nowhere. I took it because of a specific opening, but didn’t get an interview, nor has any other agency contacted me because of those results.

I guess that’s good news! At least it’s a door, even if it’s one that you choose not to pass through, and that’s always a good thing when you’re looking for a job. What kind of field are you in (just out of sheer curiosity!)

Media technology.

I don’t mean to shit here, but you haven’t had an interview in six months, and you’re still comfortable enough to remain unemployed instead of really going after a job?

I wish I had your problems, man.

I was looking for jobs before now, but I have become less picky about what I apply for. Also, I was getting pull pay through the end of April through a company severance package.

You understand that you’re really lucky to be as well off as you are, right?

I work 40 hours a week, but only as a part-timer. So, besides no vacation-- no insurance.
My son needs some dental work. CHIP would be there for that, except that I work too many hours per week to qualify.

I’ll mow yer lawn. I created and operated lighting efffects for the Now or Never Theatere back when I lived in Boulder,
and I 'm pretty good at shoveling snow, too.
Right now I spend most of my time helping folks fix broken toilets.
Before that, I did some PC support.
It must be great to be “less picky”…

Yes it is. Not married, no kids, all I have to really worry about is the mortgage and food.

Sorry, man. I had a shitty day yesterday.

No problemo.
