Financial Fear Factor

This is a question that could land in GD (or the Pitt!) but it’s for the economists out there(Please bear with me): is there a way, semi within the constraints of modern America (or anywhere for that matter) possible to separate survival from money? The idea is this: to allieviate Survival Fear without having to start over completely from scratch, as in withing a capitolist republic (strict definitions of Capitolist and Republic not applicable). AND the crux of all this is the final question to a duplicitous OP: are we creating more unemployment through the use and advancement of technology? Are we making ourselves obsolete in the workforce? And if so, what does this do to the concept of ‘unemployment=worthless’ ??

This is a Great Debate, not a General Question. Feel free to repost in the appropriate forum.
