Finding someone...

I had checked the posting rules, but thought I’d explicitly ask in here before I posted in MPSIMS.

I’ve been trying to track down a friend I lost touch with several years ago, but to no luck. I began to wonder if the network of people who post on The Straight Dope might be able to act as a Six Degrees of Separation sort of thing, and help me re-establish contact…

All I have are his name, the fact that he was a Brit living and working in the US and may have gone back to London, and where he used to work (I contacted them, and, strangely, they have no idea where he went…he just left). Would it be permissable to post my query in MPSIMS and see how the Dopers do at helping me get in contact again?

I see no problem with it, though I would ask that people involved in this not post actual personal information on the board but share this sort of thing through emails. You can talk about what’s happening or how you’re looking and etc., but don’t list real-life names, phone numbers, addresses; the possibility of abuse is just too great.

If you do open a thread on this, please mention that you asked me about it and I approved it under these conditions. And I appreciate you asking up front.
