Fine Print at the end of TV Commercials?

Does anyone know what the purpose of fine print at the end of TV commercials is all about? Typically it’s new car commercials, and the fine print appears for about 2 seconds. I remember years (decades?) ago the print was actually legible, but there wasn’t any chance of actually being able to read it all due to time constraints. Now, not only is there not enough time to read it, it wayyyyyy too small to even read at all.

So, if it’s too small, and there’s no possibility of anyone actually being able to read it, why is it there at all? What legal purpose would illegible text appearing for 2 seconds possibly serve?

It’s to get around the legal requirement of disclosure. I agree though, it’s pretty much usless… Kind of like the quick speak at the end of similar radio commercials.
