Finger stalls for children

My small friend (aged 6) had the tip of his index finger removed in an accident. He’s all bandaged up, but they haven’t given his parents any finger stalls to keep the bandage clean and dry. And he’s 6. I thought I’d be able really easily to find some nice finger stalls, maybe with novelty designs like dinosaurs or space ships or something, for children. Like you can buy novelty plasters for kids. Anyway, maybe I’m stupid, but I can’t find any. Does anyone happen to know anywhere that sells such items? All I can find are adult ones, mostly plain blue, and I’d rather get him something cool to cheer him up.

Thanks everyone.

What is a “finger stall?”

Joe

I have the same question. Never heard of the term before. What are they?

I think they’re also called ‘finger cots’ - it’s like a little latex glove that’s only for one finger. Unfortunately I’ve never seen patterned ones. Poor little guy :frowning:

Oh, the things that look like baby condoms?

Sheesh, can’t anyone here use Google?

Try going here http://lmgtfy.com/ next time the lack of a simple Google search by someone irritates you. Try it out, it is hilarious!

I did use Google - nothing useful came up.

Not so much the finger cots which look like tiny condoms. His bandage is too bulky for those.

Finger stalls are more like a single glove finger, made of latex or silicon usually I think, extended down the back of the hand with an adjustable strap that goes round the wrist to keep them on.

It just seems bizarre to me that no-one makes something to keep kids’ oft-injured digits clean and dry, when a) they’re always hurting themselves and b) they’re always getting their hands in stuff you might not want on a bandage!

Maybe I’ll start making a line of these and make my fortune. Thanks anyway, folks.

No. Not my responsibility.

Joe

Wow. I think we can trust that Teacake is not an idiot, and as he later revealed, he did use Google. Who pissed in y’all’s cornflakes?

Well, I was referring to all the posters who were pondering “what’s a finger stall?”.

there are finger splints made of metal. a metal strip bent into a U and then curved, you slide the finger in from the side. keeps the finger rigid and protects the tip. the metal is soft enough that it can be bent by hand to modify if needed.

It was more an issue of I couldn’t be bothered to Google than that I can’t do it. It seems like when you’re referencing an obscure item in your OP, it might be a good idea to explain what it is so that everyone else doesn’t HAVE to Google. My post was simply meant as a reminder of that concept.

Well now, I thought that since I was asking if anyone knew where to get them, the people who would give useful answers would already know what they were. Being as how they knew where to get them, and all. “Finger stalls to keep the bandage clean and dry” in the OP - well, the whole OP, really - was context from which it could probably have been worked out for well-meaning drive-byers, too. I thought. Maybe I overestimated.

Thanks, Brynda, for the vote of confidence! And johnpost, thanks for the suggestion. He doesn’t really need a splint, they’ve taken off the part of his finger that was crushed. He’s just an active six year old who gets his hands in things, and I thought it might be good to be able to keep his bandage from getting gross in the week he has to keep it on before he gets it changed at the hospital. Obviously a forlorn hope, but I appreciate people’s suggestions.

What about a restaurant supply store? Surely they have them for people that cut themselves in kitchens. Maybe if you found the tiniest size available? Still, that could be too large though. He may have to make do with the smallest size latex or nitrile gloves. Hate that for him - poor guy.
