Fire and Fury (upcoming Trump book) - intend to read it?

He took one for the team (i.e. the non-MAGAts).

I’m in the camp of those who don’t plan to read the whole book, just the many excerpts that will be out there. The customer reviews are coming in fast and furious on Amazon and they’re great fun to read as well, like this one:

"Reading this book is like being forced to eat an entire 5 gallon carton of ice cream

Nothing in this book will surprise anyone who has been following the trials and tribulations of the 45th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump. His supporters will cry foul, and say some of it isn’t true – and some of it might not be – but if even 10% of what is in this book is true, holy crap!

Reading this book is like being forced to eat an entire 5 gallon carton of ice cream in one sitting. It is yummy and you don’t want to stop. And then you do want to stop but you can’t, because the book has you roped in."

And this one
"The mere fact that Trump is spitting out more furious, poorly written tweets than the girls of my local middle school is evidence enough that this book truly gets to the decaying, tumor-ridden heart of Trump’s “presidency” and makes it worth a read. But this is also the sort of work that is going to affect our nation’s collective consciousness for years to come and is worth reading simply as a cultural artifact. I’ll spare you getting into specific quotes since I’m sure if you’re interested in this book you’ve likely already seen dozens of them plastered all over the news. But suffice it to say it paints a picture of a ship without a captain, a chaotic maelstrom where the man in charge doesn’t have a clue what he’s doing, doesn’t know what he wants to accomplish and often doesn’t even care. Instead, he essentially smashed open the presidency like a piñata and let his many hangers on, yes men and family members scratch and claw at each other for the pieces of candy that fall to the floor.

It’s pretty telling that this book actually makes former right hand man and closet-Sith Lord Steve Bannon look pretty good by comparison. Fire and Fury will confirm a lot of what you’ve probably already suspected but didn’t have much concrete evidence for."

#MeToo!

I might crack a copy; see if I can score one of those for my own self…

Does no one else see the irony of a guy who’s sworn to uphold the Constitution trying to suppress the publication of a book?

Actually, I think everyone does except you-know-who.

Out of the mouths of babes and sucklings department

Me: “Cub, there’s a new book out about Mr Trump. Says he’s not a nice man and is sorta dumb.”

Piper Cub: “Does Mr Trump want all the copies of the book burnt?”

Here is a list of some of the main points in the book.

Other than his fear of being poisoned (considering how many people he has screwed over I guess I can’t blame him for worrying about it) it wasn’t really stuff those of us who’ve been following the news wouldn’t have expected.

Sounds like the perfect gift for the annoying Trumpoltroon in your life…

Trump went apeshit when Bill Maher made a joke about him being half orangutan. He threatens to sue on little provocation.

I’m not saying I disbelieve Michael Wolff’s account of anything, but this book does look somewhat like a cash grab that expands on memes already floating in the progressive media about Trump. The plan to start ‘Trump TV’ after losing the race was on the radio at the time. The stuff about Trump being illiterate was a Samantha Bee bit. These things don’t have to be true, and they aren’t new. For stories of that nature, this just puts them in one place.

However, there is some stuff, like a reported conversation between Steve Bannon and Roger Ailes in New York’s excerpt, that surprised me. If Ailes told stories like this to Wolff to undercut Trump, that’s striking to me.

I am tempted to buy the book, though. I’m not sure how much to believe, but it should be fun to bring with me when I’m around Republicans.

I am reading it.

Welcome to the Straight Dope Message Board,** hajaar**!

I hope that’s not your only post!

I’ll read it eventually. I don’t expect I’ll learn anything really new but having all the crapola in one place and not scattered all over blogs/tweets/Wa Po articles/late night tv monologues/opinion columns/podcasts/etc will be an advantage. There are plenty of people who just skim the headlines and aren’t following the daily drama. This book is primarily for them.

I usually listen to podcasts while I paint but I have credits on Audible and got it for free. I’m only up to chapter 6 but I think this book will be a big part of Trump’s defense if he ever faces criminal charges. He’s absolutely too stupid to be held accountable for his own actions.

I will admit that I’m loving the backbiting. I mean, how could anyone who despises Trump as much as I do not?

I wasn’t going to make an effort to, but I may just do so now thanks to Dumb Donald’s efforts to suppress it. Barbra Streisand effect and all that. I figure with each book bought, that piece of trash feels one more turn of a knife in his gut.

How that happens is potentially as interesting as the book.

As a reader, I find one of the best things about living in the Phoenix-metro area is the annual VNSA book sale. Books are donated to the organization throughout the year and in February they are sold off in a two-day bibliophile’s orgasm. Literally tens of thousands of people descend on the sale and treasures enough abound that no small number of used book sellers fly in to build up their stock on the cheap. Each year the slate is wiped clean; except for a handful really valuable books (they check) anything not sold by Sunday afternoon is distributed to old folks’ homes and the like.

One thing I have noticed are the tons of last year’s political book that are offered up. There will be a handful of token volumes on the table top so you know where they are, but underneath are boxes and boxes filled with duplicates. Left or right, Maher or Limbaugh, the fate is the same. The volunteers in charge of the area replenish the table-top books as they are taken with what has to be far more than the demand. It’s a real lesson on how ephemeral current events are.

Any book that hastens Trump’s near fatal aneurysm (he deserves to survive it in order to suffer in mute incontinence) deserves the Pulitzer prize, IMO.

Sorry. The urge to post came all over me suddenly.

All right! Finally something we can thank President Donald for!
