Fire Emblem: Awakening

The new Fire Emblem demo was released today. Fire Emblem is not my favorite series of this genre (I’m looking at you FFT and Tactics Ogre), but at least Nintendo keeps making new ones unlike the scrooges at Square Enix. The demo is good enough to get me to buy the game in February. I like that more thought has been put into pairing up. Being side-by-side confers stat advantages and possible extra actions. And sharing a space allows for bigger stat gains instead of the old “carry” which reduced stats.

One of my biggest dislikes of the series was that the character classes couldn’t change, but according to previews I’ve read, that’s changed with this game. Similar to FFT, once you learn a skill, you can keep it even when you switch classes. It’s moving closer and closer to the style of FFT while retaining some of the classic Fire Emblem flavor.

I don’t think we’ve had a Fire Emblem thread before so feel free to share about any of the previous iterations as well.

Reviews are coming in and they’ve been very positive. GameRankings and Metacritic both have it above 90% as of right now. Looking at the reviews, I think my son could handle the Easy+Casual mode (dead characters return after battle). Is anybody else planning on picking this up?

I won’t be buying this on release date so my own review will be delayed.

I plan on picking it up too. FFT is also my favorite series in this genre having not played TO (never had a console this series plays on). I’ll probably be getting it on the release date or soon after. Just waiting right now.
