Fire massacres 45,000 barrels of innocent bourbon

… And they’re not expected to phone in any time soon. :o

While it is possible, maybe even likely, one report I heard said it was 1% of their inventory. A loss, but not a huge, market-shaking loss.

Here’s an article about charring of oak barrels. All bourbons are, by legal definition, aged in new, charred oak containers (though JD calls itself Tennessee Whiskey. More about that here.)

I should always remember to wear my glasses when I surf the SDMB. On my first reading, I read this as, “… which could wash the bourbon into a nearby creek that flows into the Kentucky Liver.”

I read one news story quoting a firefighter saying that it was the best smelling fire he’d ever smelled.

Feel sorry about the fish, though.

Saw this on Facebook:

“Jim Beam is now seeping into the Kentucky River as a result of the bourbon warehouse fire which means that if you go fishing right now, there’s a good chance you’ll catch a whiskey-drunk trout in a tank top yelling at his wife that he’ll come home when he damn well pleases.”

I am the reason why the rum is gone. Nothing that a trip to Binny’s won’t fix.

This sort of thing always impresses me. In my life I will not consume a litre of whiskey. Yet, there are factories and, I suppose, warehouses, pipelines and ocean-going tankers full of the stuff. Imagine that.

We’re too consumed with grief to complain. :frowning:

Where has all the Jim Beam gone,
Long time passing?
Where has all the whiskey gone,
Long time ago?
Where have all the barrels gone,
Gone to fishes every one.
When will they ever learn, oh,
When will they ever learn?
