I think the OP would have been more persuasive had she used more exclamation marks in the thread title. Three just doesn’t do it for me.
In the face of criticism, he has walked that back; it is now an electric moat, and an alligator fence.
Congratulations, we have our Post of the Day winner. Please collect your Hillshire Farms gift basket at the door.
Do nuclear weapons get unemployment?
And Michelle Bachmann is such an intellectual! (sorry !!!)
(Can this be moved to the Pit so we can stop pussyfooting around?)
Do we’uns what live down here in the South get to deport all the Damn Yankees after we set up our New Confederacy?
That won’t work. Because then, each state would have its own federal government. It would need to be fired, and the counties would go their separate ways. Oh, but wait… Then there would be all of those new sovereign states (the former counties), and they’d have their central government. Better break them up, so that the cities can become their own nations. Only the people on that block get more assistance than we do! Unfair! why do we have to pay for their water?
Et cetera…
I know I read it in a magazine.
Motion seconded.
What’s the federal government supposed to be doing that doesn’t get done?
Herman! Herman and the Dolts!
whoosh, Whoosh, WHOOSH!
Guess you’ve never heard about the Texas Freedom Network; they are party responsible for the latest science text selected for Texas children.
Starting years ago, extreme rightists got a majority on the state school board; most people just don’t pay attention to that part of the ballot. Of course, Idiot Perry helped. We are paying attention better now.
Then there’s the Texas Observer–preaching the liberal cause here since 1954. Molly Ivins was a long-time contributor & did a bit of editing. The mag has been on the forefront of explaining to the rest of the country why they really didn’t want to elect another Texas Governor to the Presidency. Molly tried in 2000 but Bush still got within stealing distance. (Luckily, Ricky opened his mouth too many times & did the convincing himself. Too bad he was able to avoid debating Bill White for the governorship.)
Those Red State/Blue State maps are just a bit simplistic. Most Texas cities vote Democratic. We are currently outnumbered by eejits in the 'burbs & the boondocks, but our population is growing in the right direction. That is, more diverse & more urban.
Presumably they would go to the state where they’re located. Which means that the Upper Midwest and New England would be royally screwed once the inevitable wars happen, and Montana, North Dakota and Missouri suddenly become world powers.
I thought they were supposed to be walking my dog every day, but they haven’t shown up for months.
Thank you for that.
However, the red state/blue state thing is not just a Texas issue. That is the way of it everywhere in the country, for the most part. Cities and urban centers skew left, rural/suburban skew right. The key is getting those in the hinterlands to understand why it’s in their best interest to think RATIONALLY about their causes, and their candidates. Same for the urban folks too, as there is certainly a bit of irrationality there too.
But I am very, VERY glad to see folks standing up to the “Moral Majority”.
When did Grandpa Simpson get a Straight Dope account?
Shhhh! Bart and Lisa told him it’s just an electric typewriter!
The whole continent? Well, let me ask Canada and Argentina what kind of change they need.
Why question mark?
When could they be trusted? Hell, Thomas Jefferson said: “Whenever people are well-informed they can be trusted with their own government.” I see a vicious circle with this OP.
The cities are ok, right? Whew.
Helping verbs are appreciated too. When they’re used.
What’s not working anymore? I mean are we talking defense? Education? Helium supplies? Or just a blanket “all of it”?
John Luke Jr, chairman and CEO of MeadWestvaco said “Change Simply for the Sake of Change Is an Abdication of Leadership”.
Hawaii should have no problem with that. Sorry to all of the landlocked states though.
Yeah. I blame the Catholic Church too.
Purely speaking from a realpolitik viewpont of the Bismarck school this would utterly destroy American power in the world.
Not for long. Speaking as a New Yorker, I’ll note that Vermont, Massachusetts, and Connecticut are just sitting there on our eastern border. With Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Maine just past them. And we’ve got them all outnumbered.
It’s time to put the Empire back into the Empire State.
