Just the girls? How dull is that? Here’s my whole cast list, in descending order.
River, assuming she wasn’t crazy any more. Well, maybe a little crazy…
Wash, because geeky guys are cute.
Kaylee, because geeky girls are almost as cute as geeky guys.
Zoe, because ass kicking is almost as good as geekiness.
Mal, because brooding is hot, when done in appropriately tight pants.
Jayne, so long as he keeps his mouth shut. Well, mostly shut.
Inara is certainly beautiful, and I like her as a character, but I’m honestly not all that attracted to her.
Simon is cute, but a total prat.
Book is too old for me, and guys with vows of celibacy make lousy boyfriends.
I am utterly incapable of making a choice between any of the women on that show. But I know I’d have every male character jealous of me within two days of leaving port.
Call me a dreadnok, whydontcha, that was **meant ** to be a humorous mismembering. Besides, I was relying on the G.I. JOE Continuity Pages, where it was misspelled. Blame them, not my own faulty memory.
For the guys (my prefered, although not exclusive) gender:
Mal would be the one I’d pine over, although he’d never think of me as anything more than a little sister.
Jayne would be the one who’d hit on me, and I wouldn’t give the cretin the time of day.
Wash and I would flirt shamelessly until the day I gave him the “just a friend” speech.
Simon and I would hook up, he’d be an idiot, and I’d hate him forever.
Book and I would spend long nights in the dining room discussing theology and the ethics of celibacy. We’d never hook up, but he’d be my friend for life.

Kayleigh all the way - provided you can keep from saying mind-numbingly stupid things to insult her, you know that time with her is going to be a good time. Inara and Zoe are way too intimidating - you know Inara has had better than you, and you suspect that Zoe will hurt you if you don’t do everything right. River’s just a bit too crazy - I don’t want a woman who could make my brain melt if I ever crossed her.
Kaywinnet Leigh Frye (sp?)
One wonders if she is just shy around Simon or relationships. Remembering the flashback scene with the previous engineer she is not shy about (presumably) one time stands.
Cute, bright, mechanically inclined, sexually enthusiastic (remember Out of Gas?), enamoured of intelligent guys (or guys that look like the first ship’s mechanic), non-waif-like, and really knows how to enjoy a strawberry. Yup, I’ll be in ma bunk.

I’ve had my Inara experience (no, not for money, nor with a “professional”, but someone of Inara’s temperment/personality). Zoe would just plain kick my ass. I want me a Kaylee to settle down with.
I may be misremembering this (it’s been at least a week since I watched the series again), but I don’t believe Simon ever set foot in the engine room. That’s got to score him some major negative points from Kaylee. If he had gone there, she probably would have jumped him.
Oh, and for me? Inara. She knows how to … do stuff…
Kaylee. No brainer. She seemed like she would be a naughty, naughty little girl in the bunk (or on the floor of the engine room, on the table in the mess hall, etc). She also struck me as the most likely to be up for some MFF action and that warrants consideration in my book.
For my money, the single most palm-sweatingly-hot woman in the Firefly universe is Nandi, the madam in “Heart of Gold.” Statuesque, strong-willed, intelligent, balanced, and mature. The delivery of her line in the episode, “I’ve been waiting for you to kiss me since I showed you my guns,” is, I think, just about the sexiest single moment in the whole series (and stands out because the episode it’s in is otherwise just fair-to-middlin’). None of the other women comes close for me. (And yeah, that means the ending sucks. :()
I am a new fan to the show, but I would pick Inara too. She has eyes you could park the Serenity in. I don’t see why they don’t do that when they need to hide…
