Damn that Whedon for inflicting Torres’ grotesque hideousness on me in two (2) count-em Two entirely different tee-vee shows.
My favorite voiceover from that ep’s commentary was:
JW: “…aaaaand I am SO full of shit.”
There’s also a good bit when Joss jokingly says something unkind about Nathan Fillion, who responds “I can hear you! I’m sitting RIGHT HERE!”
AND we get to learn about all the times Captain Tightpants split his pants.
NF: I think the warddrobe people made those seams weak on purpose.
W: Well, they didn’t know you were going to have a nude scene later.
Kyla, someone mentioned it upthread, but the commentary on War Stories is really good too. It’s Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk pretty much just thinking out loud. While you’re recovering, make sure you watch it. Oh, and, yes, watching lots and lots of Firefly is guaranteed to make you feel better.

I’ve actually seen it already. (I rented the DVDs from Netflix originally, so the first few episodes I only watched once because I was desperate to get the later discs, and then the last few I watched as much as possible because I didn’t want to give up my Firefly.) You’re right, it’s also a good commentary. I adore Alan Tudyk. You really get a feeling that all of the actors are friends who truly enjoyed working together.
Oh, Netflix. I know what you mean. I just got the fourth disc today after waiting for it all weekend, and I don’t want to rush through it like the other ones, because it’s the last disc.
I’ve ordered it for my own already (should be here tomorrow or the next day) so that I can fend off the inevitable post-Objects in Space depression by watching all the ones with commentary again. Then it’s off to get my family hooked!

The first Serenity comic (takes place between The Message and the Big Damn Movie) comes out tomorrow. Yaaaaay!

I’m going to visit my family next month. My sister’s already a Firefly fan, but I must now get my dad into it. Muwahaha!! I make schemes!
Comic?
[QUOTE=Kyla]
Ooo, yay! Is there anywhere online it can be ordered? (I don’t get out much.)
I’m converting my mom first–she actually asked to see an episode, to see what it is I’ve been going on about for a week and a half, so I’ll force “Serenity” on her sometime next week while my little sister’s at camp. I think my dad would really like it, but he doesn’t have a lot of free time to sit around and watch DVDs. My brother would like it too, but he’s away all summer and then I go back to college, and there’s no way I’m leaving my precious DVDs behind.
Jesus.
Malcolm looks like Riff in Sluggy Freelance sans shades.
I didn’t think it was possible for Jayne to look more Neanderthal.
Another bad guy who’s Black?
Oh man, between the comic and the movie I bet they screw it up.
I read a review of it today that said it was good. I’ll let y’all know tomorrow, after I acquire for my own self.
I saw the movie. In my opinion, they didn’t screw it up. And the good parts are very, very good, while the less good parts are merely… less good. Be comforted.
Thanks…River doesn’t, like, become a god or anything, right?
No, no, no. That’s Zoe. And another show.
I’ve seen the movie too. It rocks! Can’t wait to see it again.
Not sure why, but a comic book Firefly doesn’t interest me that much. When I was a kid, I was all about getting Star Wars comics, etc. But as an adult, just not that much interest in a comic book adaptation of my favorite show.
Nor I, especially if Malcolm looks like Riff, but it may explain something I’d like to know.
I have to admit, the art style turns me off. I’ve been immersed in manga and manga-inspired art for the last few years, and hyper-detailed, hyper-realistic Western-style art doesn’t do it for me.
I’m still going to buy the comics and read them, both to show my continued monetary support and to devour more information about the Firefly 'verse.
In a deleted scene from the episode “Our Mrs. Reynolds”, Mal mentions there being “better than 70 Earths spinning around the galaxy.” I’m choosing to assume that he’s using the world “galaxy” as loosely as possible.
One problem may be that Joss Whedon, by his own admission, knows nothing about science; and I’m not sure anybody else involved with the show did either. (For instance, in “Mrs. Reynolds”, it appears that nobody involved knew that a gun will fire in a vacuum. On the other hand, they’ve been real good about silent space scenes.)
Just occurred to me: in “Ariel”, after River slashed Jayne with a knife, Mal laid down the law to Simon about not letting River run around loose. One episode later, she’s running all over the ship, playing with Kaylee. Possibly Mal decided Jayne had it coming, and decided to give her a Mulligan on that one.
