Firefox 40.0.3 very, very slow start-up

I’ve this annoyance, Firefox 40.0.3 is very, very slow start-up in the morning, otherwise seems OK. I click Firefox on desktop and it may 3-5 minutes before *anything *happens. I’m reading Mozilla support sites now without finding anything relevant. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I just went thru this same nonsense this week, along with numerous “Not Responding” events. The suggestion I found was to “Refresh Firefox” - click Help, then Troubleshooting and in the upper right you’ll see the Refresh button.

I also updated Java and ran CCleaner and Spybot. Dunno what fixed what, but everything’s running fine now. Good luck!

I used to be a die-hard Firefox user, but it’s gotten so slow (not just startup, but everything) that I now use Chrome exclusively.

Did you disable all your add-ons and try re-starting and see how it goes? If that fixes it, enable them one at a time until you find the culprit.

I did all the things suggested here and in Mozilla support except actually going into config and editing things and the problems seem to have been resolved. I cannot determine what actually removed the problems. The last thing I did was change home page from Firefox default to a blank page. That surely could not have caused ***all ***this frustration. could it?

Yeah, make the switch to Chrome. It’s just better.

Is there a Chrome for beginners somewhere on line?

I read mostly and I plug my computer into my TV and use a large point.

Actually, I heard that Chrome is even worse than Firefox in gradually using more and more RAM from keeping it open.

Not sure what you mean by “for beginners” - you just download it and it works. You can do the same thing you’re describing in Chrome (or whatever browser). Chrome is just faster and has a cleaner interface.

Easy way:

Click the menu button, click the help button (a ? in a circle) and click “Troubleshooting Information” ON the page that opens, there should be a button that says Refresh Firefox.

Clicking it will create a whole new profile, and copy over everything important–except your extensions, which you’ll need to install again.

Longer way:
Go through your extensions and try turning them off until you find the one that made Firefox start up slow. If there isn’t such an extension, see the “Easier way” above.

Also, you should be on 41.0 now. If you aren’t, maybe that’s the issue. Go download the latest Firefox.
