Firefox 5? Already?

I’ve only seen it on a few sites; interestingly, they’re the same ones that I have to view using IE Tab. Right now all of my tabs are just sitting there with no progress indicators.

And thanks for the Add-on Compatibility Reporter link, BigT!

I’ve saw it on a couple sites at first, but it went away, so I assumed they just needed to update something. What sites are you seeing it on?

EDIT: And [del]no problem[/del] you’re welcome, Jeep’s Phoenix.

On the one hand, you are completely right. I am using Office 2004, And it won’t run when I upgrade to OSX Lion in a few weeks. I’m using a 7 year old office suite and I didn’t even realize it until now, when its on its death bed.

On the other hand, not all software needs to be updated. I used a win 3.11 version of LView Pro as my default image viewer until 2007 when I joined the dark side (Apple). Nothing worked as well, even the latest and greatest versions of LView Pro (at least, for what I needed it to do).

On the third hand, Firefox updates itself now. As i mentioned up-thread, I had to install FF4, but FF5 downloaded itself and announced its arrival one day. FF3 would download it’s own minor updates, but required at least a click to proceed. I suspect FF6 will just show up one day and I won’t even notice… Actually, I won’t notice, because this whole shenanigans got me to switch to chrome. FF seemed to be getting slower with every update.

Must be a setting that governs that, because I just keep getting reminders that it’s ready to download. I’ve upgraded several of my PCs, but I’m not dumping FF4 until one of the plugins I rely on is FF5 compatible.

So you want to go away from a browser that automatically updates, so you go to Chrome, the one that will update even when the browser isn’t running?

Try IE9. It almost surely won’t update for quite a while. And it’s the fastest browser in a lot of measures.

straightdope.com, for example. I recently installed an older wireless-g router, may have something to do with that(?)

And yes, FF6 is already in beta now…

So by the end of 2012, we’ll have Firefox 27?

They’ll probably stop using numbers and go the Microsoft way. Maybe Firefox Stealth or Firefox Inferno. Avoid Firefox Vista at all costs.

Oops. I meant come back and tell you that I was not experiencing problems on those sites. Do you live in the continental US?

If not, it may be that one of the external scripts is not responding in a timely manner, due to the increased distance. You may want to look into something like NoScript or Adblock Plus. Even if you don’t filter out ads, you can at least block scripts from websites that cause problems.

Remember, MS now has Windows 7. But even THAT isn’t right - just did a ver and got back 6.1.7601…
