I’ve been getting update queries through Firefox, so it must be “ready for prime time.” How is it? Worth the upgrade?
I only have two addons: Adblock Plus and NoScript. Are THEY ready for 4.0?

I just downloaded it today. To go back more than one page, you have to right-click on the back arrow, it doesn’t drop down automatically. Annoying as fuck.
Press and hold for about a quarter of a second and a history of the most recently visited pages will drop down.
So far so good. I had to download a new version of RoboForm but that’s about it.
I was just force-upgraded by a laptop crash and reinstall.
It’s okay. It’s not hugely different, but different enough that it gives me pause every so often. On mine tabs are now laid out above the address bar. That confuses me.
I don’t like it, mainly because they changed a bunch of minor stuff for no apparent reason. Why can’t they just change whatever under-the-hood stuff they need to in order to make it faster or whatever, and leave everything else alone? I LIKED the buttons the way the were!
ABP seems to work just fine with the upgrade BTW
Loving it. I like all the tweaks I’ve noticed.
Love it. Works with flash a lot better.
I like being able to turn the menu bar off. I don’t use the stuff up there often, so it is nice to get that space back.
Like that the address bar is also a search bar.
All of my add ons work without a hitch.
I like the tab manager.
If you don’t want that, right-click on the blank part of the menu bar and uncheck Tabs on Top.
Launches so much slower than Chrome. Also I’m having a weird problem with it periodically, whereby it doesn’t register input from my space bar, and on one occasion I couldn’t input any text at all. I haven’t put much time into figuring out what’s causing the problem, I’ve just used Chrome instead.
I don’t like the navigation tools, but I’m sure that will pass as I get used to it. Certain MS add ons weren’t updateable, which I found funny (can’t remember which ones now, came up on my upgrade box). Over all, tho, I think it’s actually a bit faster with image and animation heavy pages, but it might just be network traffic fluctuations, will try some image heavy pages at different times, see if it’s true or just a false positive.
Cheers for the hint. I’m not hugely bothered but I’ll keep that in mind if I end up hating it Mostly I just get confused and stare blankly at the screen for a few seconds before I figure it out.
Still launches slow, broke a bunch of my extensions, the new anti-aliasing makes text unreadable and blurry, even with the tuning extension, buttons are moved all over the place, extensions still take a while to download and still need to be restarted to activate…
It got hardware acceleration, I suppose. Big whoop. It’s still an ugly, fat sloth compared to Chrome.
I wished they focused more on speed and less on the sparkly animatory crap.
Sorry, Firefox. May you and Netscape live happily ever after in browser heaven.
I have it running fine on one computer, though I find it a bit annoying right now since they moved some things around and they aren’t where I expect them to be. That issue will go away once I get used to the new layout.
However, on another computer that I upgraded, I found videos on many sites running extremely slowly and stuttery, to the point of being unwatchable. I fought with it for a bit, but ended up having to go back to firefox 3 to get it to work properly again. I haven’t gotten to the bottom of that problem yet.
Adblock plus worked fine.
Click “History” and it will drop down your most recently visited pages like the back arrow did. You can then click on the page you want to return to.
Just realized that Firefox 4 does not give the option to save tabs when exiting the program. It still warns you that you’re closing multiple tabs, but no save option. I used that feature all the time with my earlier version!
There is a fix for it, but why on god’s green earth would they turn off a feature like that?! This kind of thing really annoys me, and it’s why I often avoid updating software.
Actually, that kinda pissed me off, because most times when I was closing the browser window it was because I was done, and if I’d wanted to save the tabs I was on I’d bookmark them. So it’s not something I personally miss.
There are a few things I don’t like about it, but my tabs were still saved after the upgrade.
I’ve been using it since Beta 6. I love it, and have since the beginning. They basically took the best features from other browsers and implemented them, moving to a sleeker interface and becoming much faster. It came at a cost of breaking some extensions, but all the vital ones I use were updated, and the next round of updates is focusing on maintaining backwards compatibility.
If you don’t like where the buttons are, move them back or get an extension. It’s one thing to be against Microsoft for their Office programs forcing a change on you, but it’s stupid to say the UI can never change at all. The whole point is that you can make the browser do whatever you want.
And call me when Chrome’s extension support and zoom function work properly. I still have Chrome and I use it occasionally, just to check and see if they’ve fixed the problems. I still can’t fix the niggly details.
I mean, Internet Explorer was also faster than Firefox for a long time, but how many people treated Firefox like it was the inferior product? Speed of first load is not everything, and that’s the only place where Chrome is significantly faster.
I think it’s okay for people to choose one browser over the other, but insinuating that Firefox is going to die is silly. As of April 2011, Firefox still has nearly twice the number of users of Chrome. Chrome’s increase seems to be coming from former IE users.
