I noticed that if I am using Private Browsing in Firefox I get all kinds of popups and other ads. Turns out that uBlock Origin and other blockers no longer work in Private Browsing. The icon for uBlock does not even appear in the headers anymore. Seems like this undermines the concept of “private”.
Are you sure about this? Ublock Origin works for me in Private Browsing. Remember you have to specifically check the option to Run in Private Windows: Allow [In Manage Your Extensions click on Ublock Origin and scroll down to find this option]. Or did you perhaps disable Ublock Origin for a particular site?
They changed the default a while ago so that extensions don’t run in private mode, as they could be storing information about you (and thus it not be private). Chrome had been doing this for a while.
Addons you already had were automatically enabled in private mode. But, for any new addons, you have to explicitly enable them in that mode.
Personally, I think they should use the vetting process they put Firefox’s recommended extensions into to decide if they send or permanently store any information while in private mode, and enable them in that mode by default if they do not. It would make the “recommended extensions” aspect have a bit more value.
Found it! It is not under the setting menu but you have to just click on the uBlock name like you said and some options come up. It is under “details”. Thanks so much!
