Ever since the last two updates to Firefox, it has been “hanging” frequently. Firefox doesn’t crash, it just sits there unresponsive for about 30-60 seconds with the white box in the top left corner.
This most often occurs when I try to select a bookmark, but has also happened when pressing the back key and a few other normal tasks. I’d say it happens nearly 50% of the time when I try to use a bookmark.
I’ve cleared the cache and tried a few other things I’ve found online to no avail. There’s nothing wrong with my computer that I know of, and I haven’t made any major changes to my system. Is this happening to anyone else?
I’ve given up on Firefox and moved to Chrome. The last few “updates” have made it a slow dog.
But, there is one other trick you can try. Disable your add-ons and extensions. Sometimes the third-party extensions don’t play nice with the updates, and getting rid of them can speed things up. Good luck!
They took something that was good long ago and botched it up along the updates. It’s more than just a memory leak when it balloons up to 200MB(RAM usage) inside of five minutes. The add-on Plug-in Container is another 26MB. You might want to check your task manager and see how much Firefox and associated stuff is taking at the time. Also watch the CPU usage when these hang ups happen. I believe you will see what is happening, but that won’t cure anything. They already had a big update to 6.0 and I noticed nothing different. Firefox is doing nothing to put the browser on a diet and the old girl has a hard time getting around these days. (Don’t get around much any more.)
I’m on the verge of changing to Chrome too, except for the add-on issues. Last I checked, NoScript is not available for Chrome. I consider that one mandatory, so I guess I’m stuck with Firefox and it’s crappy delays.
I have the same issue with my bookmarks but not as often. My solution is to click once on either “History” or “Tools” and then go right back to “Bookmarks” which then opens normally.
