For the past three weeks it seems like Firefox spends more time hung then doing what it is supposed to. Some times a 20 second wait, then back to normal for a minute, then hangs again.
Other times it hangs for a good 2-3 minutes, then asks if I want to abort an unresponsive script, which works for 10 minutes or so.
I have run every spyware, and anti-bastard program I have, but they find nothing. I have no unexpected add-ons or plug ins, at least that show up normally. It seems like a lot of it has to do with ads, nbcnews.com for example hangs on every single article several times.
Anybody else having issues lately? is it a bad firefox build, or are ad makers just making new overly-complex shit that my semi flaky connection can’t work with.
I am finally going to Chrome for now, but I don’t really want to abandon Ff yet.
OP, no idea of your OS, but I use Win7 64bit. I also was also quite displeased with Firefox’s latest dragging and other crap. Happened upon a different but similar browser for 64bit folk, called Waterfox. Seems exactly same in appearance/operation and all extensions I had for previous Firefox work fine still.
I am very glad to have installed it. It is Firefox, imho, but faster and no crashes/hang-ups since install a couple weeks ago.
I’ve been having issues with Firefox as well. The only thing that helps (short of using a different browser) is to frequently clear all history and then restart it.
I’m going to give that Waterfox thing a try. Thanks, Ionizer.
I used to used Firefox all the time and switched over to Chrome due to Flash Player issues. Firefox still cant get it right it seems. Plus I have Windows Vista which probably doesn’t help matters much.
If you right-click on any text entry box (like the one I’m typing this post in) you should see a “Check Spelling” option. Is it checked? Otherwise, you can find the setting under “Options” “Advanced” “General” in Firefox’s Options.
As to the OP, no problems at all with Firefox, and I usually run with two windows with well over 100 tabs open between the two.
Hmm, now that you mention it, it has been doing that for me, but generally when there’s a possibly malicious banner ad on the site. Otherwise (yahoo, sdmb, etc.) it’s still flawless.
Yep. That box is checked.
