Firefox help needed

Recently, my browser had a strange hiccup, and now it’s doing a few things that are driving me nuts. I should be able to figure these things out, but I can’t. I am teh suxx0r. What happened was that A: I lost some of my bookmarks. Not all, mind you, but just some. This is weird, but I can live with it. What’s driving me nuts is what happened to the tabs. I use Firefox 1.0.3 with the latest Tab browser Extensions plug in. What it’s doing that I’d like to fix follows:

#1. My tabs are now on the top, and I much prefer them on the bottom.
#2. If I go to bookmarks and click on a bookmark, it opens it in a new tab. I want it opened in the tab I’m using. Conversely, links open in the same tab, and I would prefer that they open in new ones.
#3. If I have one tab open to a page, it won’t let me open another tab and cut and paste the URL into the new tab to get a duplicate page. It just goes back to the first tab. This is INSANE, because one of the most useful things about tabs is the ability to click between them easily and transfer information from one to another, particularly helpful when responding to message board posts and the like.

I have looked all through the “Options” choice on the “Tools” menu, and also all over the “Tab” menu, and I can not figure out how to fix these issues. Can anyone help? I’m not normally this stupid.

Re. opening links in a new tab, try clicking the links with the scroll-wheel instead of with the mouse button. This opens them in a new tab.

Actually, it USED to, but I recently upgraded to whatever the most current version of Firefox is, and now it only does it sometimes. I haven’t had time to look into why.

I’d suggest you try the Firefox Support Forums.

#1: no idea

#2: With Firefox 1.0.4 and TabBrowser Extensions v1.14, there’s a TabBrowser Extensions Preferences menu option under the Tab Menu. You can set how bookmarks open, how popups open, etc.

#3: To open a new, blank tab suitable for pasting a URL, I added the New Tab button to my bookmarks toolbar. Go to View->Toolbars->Customize and drag it somewhere convenient. I don’t know of any shortcut to open a new blank tab, though I’ve also never looked for one.

Ctrl-T

I can’t decide if I love you or hate you right now.

Hate is ugly. I’d go for the love thing. :stuck_out_tongue:

I consider ctrl+t one of the best browsing key combinations ever.

GT

What’s truly embarrassing is that I use ctrl-T all the time. Just not to paste new URLs. For some reason, that requires a completely different new blank tab that can only be created by mouse-clicking on the new tab button.

I am teh st00pid.

While I’m at it, ctrl-K puts the cursor into the Google search box. If you want to search for something in a new tab, hit ctrl-T, ctrl-K, type your search term, and <enter>.

And I forgot to mention another function of the scroll-wheel:

Clicking a link with the scroll-wheel opens the link in a new tab; but clicking a TAB with the scroll-wheel closes the tab.

Sigh.

I ALSO forgot to mention that clicking a bookmark with the scroll-wheel will open it in a new tab. If you put several bookmarks in a folder, clicking the folder with the scroll-wheel will open all of the bookmarks in that folder, each in its own new tab.

I’m done now.
