Firefox locks up when copying files

Whenever I copy large files, Firefox locks up. As soon as the transfer finishes, Firefox starts working again. This happens consistently, and has happened with all 3.xx versions of Firefox. It has happened with Vista and 7. All other browsers (Opera, Chrome and IE) don’t suffer this problem.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what causes this? (I have Googled, but I haven’t found any positive answers.)

Try the RamBack add-on, report back if it doesn’t work.

OK, I’ve installed it, copied a large file, Firefox locked up as usual, and nothing else happened. What is RamBack supposed to do? I know it’s supposed to clear the cache, but I can do that without an addon. The point is Firefox can’t do anything when it’s locked up.

Ramback was to check if your computer’s memory was causing this. Another possibility is that you have an add-on causing this. Try disabling them and trying again.

Also, if you know how to adjust virtual memory, try raising this.

However, a lot of people are reporting firefox issues when using other browsers except ie. Another guess would be that when the new browser installed, it replaced or overwrote a .dll that firefox needed.
