Firefox Users: Do you block the SDMB with NoScript?

Just curious.

I don’t block anything with NoScript. I just googled it to find out what it was.

There are dozens of other plugins that block ads just as well.

I don’t have ads, since I’m a paid member. I block the site with NoScript because I’m (perhaps overly) cautious about allowing sites. I only allow a site if it’s necessary for the site’s basic functionality.

Yeah, I don’t use NoScript to block ads. I use NoScript to make sure scripts don’t run when I don’t need them to run. It’s probably overly paranoid, but I prefer things that way. And, I just checked and saw that I have it turned off for the SDMB. I forget why. Probably some functionality here or there. So, I use it, but not for the SDMB.

I use Adblock Plus. Never even realised SDMB has ads.

Adblock Plus here, too. I never knew a lot of stuff had ads, like Facebook, you tube, some news and weather channels I use, and the SDMB. I found out one day when I used someone else’s computer.

The SDMB itself, no. There’s 5 other things on the page that are blocked (quantserve etc). If SDMB is blocked fast reply and polls don’t work properly, IIRC.

I said yes for the half dozen other sites that have scripts running here. I allow SDMB scripts though.

Nah. Don’t care enough. I have NoScript more for the ability to block plugins, and occasionally to block Javascript on sites that use it to keep you from copy-and-paste.

I have everything globally allowed, but with plugin restrictions on even trusted sites. The only plugin I don’t block is Flash, for which I use FlashBlock (which can let me globally allow features.)

I use Adblock Plus for all sites.

No or I wouldn’t be able to post this. There are five other things blocked on the site though.

I don’t block straightdope.com with NoScript, but I do block the other domains trying to piggyback on the pages here.

For those of you bringing up AdBlock, that does not serve the same function as NoScript. NoScript prevents sites from running scripts in your browser without your permission. While some ads will run scripts and are blocked by AdBlock, I don’t think it blocks non-advertising scripts.

straightdope.com: not blocked
everything else on this page: blocked.

Same here, sdmb itself is not blocked, all the other “piggyback” parasites are

NoScript no; Adblock yes.

Yeah, me either.

Except for those posts that say, “Hey, check out the ad they put on this thread!” Usually a religious ad on an atheist post or something similarly incongruous.

But, yeah, I wouldn’t have known there were ads except for that.

I love Adblock. Don’t leave home [page] without it.
