Firing The World's Largest Rifle Round!

Jeebus! This thing is a MONSTER, firing a 2400g round with 240g of powder behind it. Wow. Watching these guys I seriously doubt I wouldn’t get tossed from the table like a ragdoll from the recoil. Look at the round! They look like M-320 grenade rounds!

Amazing.

Mount that thang in the back of mah pickup and let’s go shoot sumthin’!

Here, hold mah beer.

It’s just funny to me to see the surprise with these guys about the recoil, when they’ve deliberately been told how forecful it is “like firing 10 30.06 rifles all at once”. And LOL at all the padding necessary to even fire this cannon.

How many zombie brains could you explode with that, if they were all lined up??

I want to see what’s happening down range! Shoot a garbage can full of water or something. Send one to Hickok45. He’ll shoot an old refrigerator or a lawnmower!

I have a Serbu BFG-50. It shoots the .50 BMG round.

Friends come over to shoot it. The rifle is designed to be shot in the prone position. But there are lots of laughs when the shooter picks it up and shoots it in the offhand position. We have done it on multiple occasions. Lotsa fun.

Looks like a winner for my bear thread

As found on Wiki:

“The cartridge propels its 2,400 gr (160 g) bullet at approximately 2,100 ft/s (640 m/s). This yields a muzzle energy of 38,696 ft·lb (52,465 J).”

Utter insanity. It’s a tank gun.

No. A Gun for Dinosaur.

In actual muzzleloadrers, I’ve fired punt guns in that size range. I’ve also fired .600 nitro express and .50BMG and I have a .460. Yeah, put one in my hands, and I’ll drop the hammer on it.

So you’ll shoot this one? :stuck_out_tongue:

Speaking of Hickok45, shotgun “pistols” (sort of).

No thanks. 7mm Remington Magnum rifles and .357 pistols are about the limit for me. I could theoretically go higher if I wanted to but I am scared of developing trigger-flinch. You might as well ask Mike Tyson to come over and punch me in the arm as hard as he can while detonating a pile of dynamite right next to me at the same time. That isn’t my idea of a good time.

Most people have no idea how insanely loud larger caliber guns are. Even shooting a single round through that one without really good hearing protection would probably cause permanent hearing damage. In the best case, you would have tinnitus for days.

Shooting a 9x25 Dillon out of my G29 gets everyone’s attention at the range.

I’ve done ones like it. Black powder is more push than kick so while they hurt, a stiff 10g modern round (especially the 3.5 inch) hurts a lot more to me.

Now volley guns ----- THOSE get downright rambunctious.

“Stopping Rifles” in 2-Gauge were once a thing - though it too a beast of a man to fireone and remain standing. They still exist, and have a larger bore than the monster in the OP (1.326" vs. .950"). BUT - being black powder. they only have roughly half as much ME.

It’s a monster alright, but not nearly as big as you’ve stated here. One would need to read the article to learn that the round is in fact only 2400 grains (abbreviated as “gr”) rather than the 2400 grams (abbreviated as “g”) that you claim.

It should be clear then that they are not using a whopping half-pound of propellant, either.

Hell, a Rohrbaugh R9 takes a lowly 9mm and kicks like a mule.
