To be fair ticket prices are so flipping high in america most people like me a film fan just don’t have the money to take risks on low budget independent films in a theater, too expensive to waste on a possible dud. If ticket prices were lower more people might take risks on their theater viewing. I’d never spend $10 on a movie ticket if I wasn’t SURE it was worth it.
And sorry but the premise for Intouchables sounds horrible and preachy, I mean seriously? Let me guess racism is bad?
I agree with you about paying full price. I very very very rarely pay full price for a film. It all depends on where a person lives and what’s available to them. I’ve said many times that I’m lucky enough to live in a city with choices that are fairly reasonable. I see most of my indie/foreign films at theaters where there’s a discount (for instance, the Music Box has $5 Mondays, the films shown at the Gene Siskel Film Center are all $6 with a $50 a year membership).
Nah, in the movie the rich guy isn’t racist at all. If anything, the black guy misjudges the rich guy. They come from different worlds but find common ground and become friends blah blah blah, true, but parts of it were unpredictable. I didn’t find it preachy at all. It’s pretty funny too. It’s not a comedy but there were several laugh out loud moments and even more smile/chuckle moments. It’s still playing at one theater here, playing continuously for a few months (I saw it June 13th, right after it opened). That NEVER happens anymore. Well, ok, it does because it’s happening with The Intouchables, and with Moonrise Kingdom, which opened in early June and is still in a couple of theaters here. The Intouchables isn’t for everybody, but what movie is? It’s not going to be in my Top 10 of the year or anything, but I liked it.
Edit: I just checked and Intouchables is still playing in 2 theaters, and Moonrise Kingdom is in 3 theaters.
He’s probably coming back from taking a leak and hasn’t had his glove put back on yet. Unless they have assistants to aim for them. How’d you like to go to film school for that?
As to the Robocop suit - if that’s actually how it will look like in the movies, it’s awful, simply awful. It’s the same matte-grey-black bullshit they’ve got almost every superhero in now. It looks terrible.
What’s especially awful about the suit is that he looks like neither a robot not a cop. Maybe I’m stupid, but isn’t Robocop a portmanteau of ROBOT and COP? And they’re giving him a suit that looks neither robotic nor police-like, thereby missing the entire point.
What’s with all the remakes of Verhoeven’s films these days? They were ultradeep products of their times, not cookie-cutter action films. (okay, okay, please ignore Show Girls)
I don’t know if this is what the Robocop suit will look like when the effects are finished, so much is done with CGI effects now that it’s entirely possible that this costume is going to get serious post production upgrades.
Still, there’s something about the original Robocop suit. It was all bulky and clunky, like what some jackass company would think would be cool and futuristic but instead was actually bulky and clunky.
I suppose we’ll see as we get closer to the release date.
