High atop the Kodak headquarters in Rochester, NY, sits a nesting box frequented every year by a pair of peregrine falcons. Being Kodak, there are lots of cameras to cover the process, and it is starting again.
I’ve mentioned this once or twice before on this board, so if you are a bird watcher, this is something to keep an eye on. Check out the Imprints link for the story thus far (plus pictures).
I’ve had links to that cam for four years now. Five eggs on a nest is extraordinary for falcons, and Mariah and Kaver have done it for three years in a row. Last year there were actually six eggs but one didn’t hatch.
And two of the eyases that hatched last year didn’t make it, possibly because Mariah injured her foot and the eyas food supply wasn’t as plentiful as usual. Even so, Mariah and Kaver have been remarkably successful parents.
This morning there are only 4 eggs; the very pale one that was laid first is missing. People have combed back through the archives, but (so far) no one has spotted what happened or when.
I loved watching the Eagle Cam from Hornby Island BC last year, but it’s not online anymore. It was a great live feed, and very high quality video and sound. I haven’t been able to find anything as good. Anyone know of any other good bird cams?
This is great! I just found out about this today while in the company gym. One of our internal cable channels is The Hawk Channel . Eggs were laid and we’re waiting for them to hatch.
