The floors in this one are extremely slippery when you have moisture on your soles. Since it rains here much of the year, it’s a poor choice for flooring.
The original no longer exists, nor does the bakery that supplied their buns.
The one at King & Beauregard is likely owend by one of the original five or a relative, though.
I don’t know how long the one in Sacramento has been here, but I only just saw it the other day. I have not heard of them before and the Kiddo and I considered going, but opted for Mexican instead. Based on this thread, I don’t know if I should try them or not. We usually just go to Ford’s but it’s across town.
the moment elevation burger opened up near me (also DC suburbs) i have yet to go back to a 5 guys
Five Guys gets a big ol’ meh from me. Twelve dollars for a burger, fries, and drink? It better be a damn good burger, and it’s not.
Eh, the burger at five guys is just kind of average, the fries, however, are exactly what I might be in the mood for sometimes, can’t go wrong there. Nothing special to me. Now what I really want, if I get a crave on, is a three oaks burger, not five guys. I think it’s the breath and the patina of the grill and grease… five guys is too sterile for me, in fact that might be the problem, they are all too new to have the flattops “broken in”… they get the meat fresh, locally, everyday at the oaks and you can get it as rare as you like. Thicker burger better taste, fresh local florida tomatoes nothing mealy and shipped. Another Cheeseburger in paradise port of call.
I wouldn’t bother trying the grilled cheese. At the Five Guys I went to, it wasn’t grilled at all - just a room temperature bun with warm onions and mushrooms, and a cold slice of cheese. It was definitely not what I expected, and not very tasty.
Went to Five Guys once. Got a chewy burger and some soggy fries. Never went back.
There’s really no reason for me ever to go to Five Guys when The Vortex is just down the street.
Yeah; their burgers are very tasty and their fries are way better. A little in the pricey side, though.
::sound of one lonely bugle playing taps very slowly in the distance::
Not only is there variation by location, there’s variation by shifts.
I originally encountered Five Guys in a DC suburb, it was recommended by friends and was every bit as good as they said.
More than a year later a location opened near where I work. First visit (daytime), everything was as good as I’d remembered. One evening after work I placed a take out order. Fries were disappointing. It was crowded. Everyone messes up sometimes. I wasn’t ready to write them off yet. Next visit was after church. Everything was copacetic. Time after that I went in the evening my burger was dry and the fries were beyond disappointing.
I really shouldn’t be eating burgers and fries, anyway.
I’ve a Five Guys across the street from where I work. Pretty good, and pretty consistent, but damned pricy for what you get.
Frankly, I’d MUCH prefer to drive three miles down the road to Jakes Wayback Burgers. There’s a reason they keep getting voted 'Best in Delaware!" Seriously good burgers, and somewhat less pricy. Also, their malted shakes are olde-timey delicious!
Fries: Entirely too many.
Hot dogs: Decent and grilled, but no option for chili.
Burgers: Good, but they taste a lot like Wendy’s to me.
I’ve been a couple times and they make the best burger out of the chains available in my area, but I still like the local joints better.
I just came from Five Guys, having bought a cheese burger with ketchup, lettuce and grilled onions and a regular fries.
The fries really weren’t anything special.
The hamburger was a freak’n mess: grease soaked bun and nasty looking brown lettuce.
I removed one of the patties and chucked it in the trash, as well as most of the fries and all the lettuce.
I think I paid $10 for that disgusting mess.
Never again.
Well, let’s see: I sent them a complaint email back when I started this thread, so no reply or acknowledgement after 17 days means “fuck you”, I guess. Just reinforces my notion of not going back there.
Eh, I love their food.
They are installing another Five Guys in Tanasbourne. Usually, they are pretty good for the first few months, at least.
