FLAC files to my PC

Ok, here is the deal. My bro and I went to see Neil Young a month ago, and he made me a CD of the show (downloaded it from who knows where, and burnt it to a CD). I want to rip it. So I put it in my DVD/RW/etc etc drive and all the songs came up and I can see them, but the m%$@% ucker just won’t play, or load, or what have you. He (my bro) told me to download a codec from illiminable, and I did so. but no luck.

I just want to hear this concert again ( we were in the 2nd row).

Help.

The CD has FLAC files on it and you can’t play/whatever them?

http://flac.sourceforge.net/ meets your needs codec-wise.

What are you using as your media player? Just download winamp and it’ll deal happily with FLAC files.

ok, i think im on to something, what is winamp?

A trusty old warhorse of a media player. It’s got a bit bloated over the years but it works as advertised. It’ll let you burn various different formats too, and there are about a million different add-ons you can use to customise the thing. Just download the free version.

Thank you, thank you, a million times thank you!

but now if i take my cd out of the player, it stops. How do I rip it?

Stick your CD in the drive, and look in the Media Library. There should be a directory called “Audio CD”. Click on that and there should be a “Rip” button along the bottom below the track listings in between “Enqueue” and “Eject CD”.

Huh? He made you a Data CD with FLAC files on them. No ripping required. Just click and drag them to your hard drive. Think of FLAC files as the lossless equivalent of MP3 files.
