Flags? Candles? Do something with more substance.

The symbolic stuff is all nice and good, but if you really want to make an impact, buy stock.

The terrorists bombed the WTC to strike a blow to our economy. Strike back!

When the markets open on Monday, pick out an American company and buy a few shares, a 100 shares, whatever you can comfortably afford. If enough people do it, the economy will get a little jumstart, the indexes will reflect positively, and the terrorists efforts will be countered. The world may or may not see our flags or candles, but you can bet your life they’ll see out markets. You want to send a message? Buy stock.

If you don’t know how to do it, call your local stock broker today, and find out.

For that matter, go out and buy some groceries, or that new car you’ve been planning, or buy the materials for that home improvement project. Don’t sit on the sidelines and “see what happens”. Our economic power is in each one of us- if we sit around, the economy tanks. If we go forth and behave as if we’re NOT cowed by terrorists, maybe, just maybe, the economy can recover.

And THAT, among anything we’re doing or can do, will piss of them sunza beaches the most.

I had planned on pissing away a fair deal of money back into the economy this weekend and especially my birthday (the 17th).

One of the items I will be buying is a nice American flag.

While we’re at it, here’s a few more things we can do:

Go to work. Go to school. Talk to your friends. Hug your spouse and kids. Call your parents. Do someone a favor. Send a donation. Go to a ballgame. Cheer. Boo an umpire. Take a trip. Book a flight. Don’t complain about long lines … too much. Read a book. Enjoy a walk. Mourn the death of a loved one. Sing: The National Anthem, Amazing Grace, the Sesame Street theme song. Play with a child. Smile. Pray. Be slow to anger. Demand justice. Seek fairness. Cook a meal from scratch. Listen to music. Dream. Write a letter. Remind yourself of the things that make you happy. The things that make you sad. Ask questions. Accept responsibility. Think. Vote. Smell the air. Clean the bathroom. Drive just a few miles over the speed limit. Look at old photos. Tell people what your think. Listen to what they say. Have a good time. Cry. Sweat. Bleed. Have some wine. Take an asprin. Read to your kids. Watch where an ant goes. Marvel at a bird’s flight. Listen to the wind in the trees. Look up at the stars. Thank God. Praise Allah. Be good to each other.

In short, go about your lives.

Wear sunscreen.

It’s a good idea. In fact, I was thinking about doing it.

I have zilcho money to spare, so I thought I would buy some of that tech stock that is worth about 3 cents a share. You could say it’s a sure loser. But a tech stock recovery is probably a damn sight more likely than, say…the twin towers falling down. Oops. Bad analogy. Anyway, it’ll be fun to watch my tech stocks go from bad to worse–sorta like fantasy baseball.

And I do think that investing, even in a small way, will help.

Be excellent to each other.
