I am working on sound design for an upcoming show, and some of the sound effects require rather precise timing — in particular, the crack that goes with the swing of a baseball bat.
I’m told Flash can be used to make a simple little effects box: pre-load all the sounds, click the mouse, and the sound plays instantly. This would be as opposed to trying to cue up CD or MD, or double-click on a .WAV file for Windows Media to cue up.
Does anybody know how to get Flash to do this easily? I’ve never used the stuff before.
Sound Cue System appears to be free (or it may just be a “demo” version) for an older version, or the current version sells for $54+
Even if you have to buy it, $54 may work out to be cheaper than fiddling with Flash, especially when you don’t know much about it to start with, and the inevitable: someone comes up half an hour before tech rehearsal and says “Oh, and can we get the sound of a tweeting bird?” after you’ve built the Flash app. With an SFX player, adding sounds is trivial.
