My flat panel TV is about 4 or 5 years old, I guess. I know it’s not plasma, so I think it’s LCD.
Anyway, in the past few months I have realized that there are permanent dark reddish vertical streaks on the sides, the one on the left is bigger than the one on the right. They are irregular shapes.
What causes this? LCD TVs are not supposed to be subject to burn-in, and anyway the shapes are too irregular. I have also noticed it on flat panel TVs at the gym, which are on many hours every day. The streaks are in the same approximate position as on my TV.
If I need to buy a new TV at some point because this becomes too annoying (you can’t always see it against whatever is showing on the screen at the moment), is there anything I should watch out for so this doesn’t happen to the next TV I buy?
Looking for actual knowledge here, not WAGs, if possible.
