Flat panel monitor problem - And ideas?

I’ve got a 2 year old Gateway LCD monitor. It now takes about 3 hours to power up after being unplugged. It works just fine after that, but for the first 3 hours, there is no sign of life. Not even a power light.

Any idea what would cause that?

Bad capacitor somewhere?

Yup, seen this on monitors but not so long of a delay. The usual el cheapo “bad caps” that can be Googled for.

The good news, lcd monitors are not so dangerous to work on like CRTs. The bad caps are usually easy to spot (bulges and leaks). The bad news is that good soldering skills are required and you have to be careful of getting the right type of replacement caps.

(I’ve got a $1 garage sale monitor over yonder that I fixed.)

Capacitor/power supply was my first guess, but the 3hr thing was throwing me off. Thanks for the confirmation.
