Flavouring your water?

What do you flavour your water with? I need to drink more water, but I don’t like the blandness of it on it’s own. I’ve tried the pre-flavoured water and diet drink crystals, but they are all flavoured with Splenda, which makes it taste like death and gives me headaches. I wish there was just some sort of thing like an orange extract that you just put a few drops in a bottle of water, just like food colouring.

I’ve actually put in a dash of lemon juice to give water of a bit of tart flavour.

I like lime juice in mine…yum!

I don’t know how orange extract would do in water, but, it does exist. (Question is, is it oily or not?) Here is a company that sells water soluble orange extract, but I am not sure if they sell to single people, or companies.

ETA: or you could just use the old standby method of a twist of citrus peel to flavor the water, or a small slice?

You know those little round red cinnamon-flavored candies called Red Hots or Imperials? I drop about five of those in a bottle of water and put the bottle in the fridge. The next day, the candies have dissolved, and the water has a pleasant, refreshing cinnamon-y tang to it.

With that idea, there are other small hard candies out there for sale, some of them fruit flavored and tangy like Rendez Vous, others with different flavors, like Altoids.

Here is a link showing one of the candies I just mentioned.

Cucumber water is really refreshing and tasty. Take half a cucumber, chop it into 3-4 chunks, put it in a jug of water, and refrigerate for several hours/overnight. Yum!

I hear you can do the same with strawberries, and it will turn the water slightly pink. Haven’t tried it.

The leaves of certain plants (camellia sinensis for instance, add a little mint for an extra treat!) when placed for a period in hot water can result in a wonderfully flavoured water. Add a little sweetener and then chill. Yummy!

Ribena, Black currant cordial, dilute to your taste.

Yum. Added bonus, it’s good for you!

I have the same attitude to water and would love to stop drinking soda altogether. Ribena is the best I’ve found so far.

Chrysanthemum tea is also very yummy, you can buy the dried flowers in many Asian or Chinese groceries.

I like water on its own, but I also like to squeeze a wedge of lemon into a glass of water. I like my water unsweet!

Another thing which is good if you can find it is this stuff:

Water with fruit flavour. Not sweetened! No sugar, no splenda, no whatever. So good!

As I look now they also have a slightly sweetened type, which I’ve never tried.

I recently tried a brand called ‘Rainwater Twist’ becuase it was in my favorite flavor, peach. It claimed to have 9% actual fruit in it and I was stunned at how not-sweet and remarkably peachy it was! It was stupidly high in price but I was after a treat. They have it at Whole Foods/Harry’s. I thought about mixing it with regular water to stretch the flavor - then I decided juicing a fresh peach would prolly work the same.

I like dangermom’s idea for cucumber water! I’m gonna try that and add a sprig of mint.

I’ve heard if you mix it with that kool-aid powder it makes it taste pretty good.

You could gently squeeze a slice of lemon into the glass and then throw the slice in there. This will also cut down the taste of the nasty stuff in your tap water.

I second the cucumber suggestion, BTW. The hair place I used to go to back in my metro stage did this.

These people can help you, too. This is the same flavoring that a lot of coffee shops use for their drinks.

Some people call this drink “tea”.
