OK - What is there to do in Flint? Besides Halo burgers, coney dogs, and the GM plant?
Work is taking me there for a week or so.
I also rented Roger and Me. So I may do a Michael Moore tour.
However much that might disturb me.
Thanx -

Well, on Sunday nights you can see me play with the band at Fenton Road Tavern near the corner of Fenton and Atherton Road. It’s an open jam night, so you’ll have to put up with a bit of guitar karaoke-isms, but it’s fun. Sometimes we get Larry McCray in to jam with us! Larry turns up at most of my gigs, if he’s not out on tour.
If you like chicken, you can go to the Number 1 tourist attraction in the state:
Frankenmuth which is famous for it’s chicken and quaint little shops. (There are some pretty cool toy stores in the down town area.) Loads of kitschy shops. there is a newer River Walk shops that seem to be ok.
Birch Run is on route to Frankenmuth and an vast outlet mall(s) Which are pretty good over all.My friends go orgasmic over the stores there, I’d rather do the Salvation Army. Some great stores ( Columbia, Hilfiger, Lauren) Not a half bad remaindered book store there.
These are possibly 25 minutes away from Flint ( north on 75. Can’t miss it. Tons of signs. They want your money.)
About two hours north you can hit Soaring Eagle Casino. Look for the native americans driving ferarris
If you go West on I-69 ( he he. I said I 69.) there is a mall a few exits down. Can’t remember what it is called. The people at the hotel will know.
Go East on I-69, You can be in Port Huron in about 1 hour and see freighters run up and down the waterway. Go to Canada just to say you did or play Bingo, which is a religion over there. (Between Flint and Port Huron, there isn’t anything worth stopping for.)
South on I-75, in Troy ( about 45 minutes depending on Traffic) you can hit one of the swankiest malls in the state, fi not the Midwest. Somerset Collection Take 75 south to Big Beaver Road yeah, that is the name of it, we are sex fiends around here. Go West about two miles. It is two malls, one on each side of the road connected by a catwalk. It is beautiful and expensive.
If you are looking for something in particular, please feel free to let me know.
WE MIchiganians want you to enjoy your stay, and more importantly, spend loads of money here. Then go home. And take a few of our own with you
And just to make the sex-fiends image complete.
On 75, BIg Beaver Road is exit 69.
And to complete the hat trick on the sex fiends image, south on 75, there is an intersecting highway called…696.
We are nothing but ( heh heh, she said but) pervs around here.
IIRC, you can get to Climax, MI, by taking highway 69.
Ok. I’m having a bad day. I missed Shirley’s post that talked all about it. Never mind.
In Flint? Oh there’s lots to do!
Why there’s…
And there’s…
Can’t forget…
…Well, bugger.
Well thanx all for the replies.
I guess just don’t want to miss whatever it is that would be imperative for someone to see in Michigan. I don’t want to get back home and have people say -“you were in Michigan and you didn’t ________”
“No, I didn’t.”
“Well you should’ve.”
Today I travelled up to Bay City (Birthplace of madonna). Continued on to Pigeon and then up to Sebewaing (Home of Pioneer Sugar), and Caseville (home of a piece of rail from the Caseville Pontiac line), Caro (also home of Pioneer Sugar) and then of course to Frankenmuth - I will return there tomorrow - Can’t miss the giant Santa on the interstate. I noticed that apparently April is ditch burning month in Michigan.
Tuesday drove out to Chesaning (Showboat capital of Michigan - don’t ask), Flushing, Montrose, and Birch Run. Wednesday down Howell, Ann Arbor (to get the only copy of Roger and Me in the Thumb), and then to Farmington Hills, and then back through Milford, Fenton, and Flint.
As long as I am in the Thumb and will be travelling west next week or the week after I was planning on Big Axe, the Sanilic petroglyphs, and Port Huron.
Tonight it was dinner at Bubba’s. Getting a little tired of the Coney Dogs although they are pretty good.
Also curious if there are bands playing anywhere besides the Union halls?
Mike
You’re in hell. Rent a car and drive down to Royal Oak. Go to Gusoline Alley.
Bubba’s? I’ve played there many times as well.
Warning - stay away from the east side, and the north end. Roll up your windows and lock your doors! I ain’t kiddin’!
