This is giving him far too much credit. People saying that he didn’t know better are naive. He knew exactly what the fuck he was doing.
For some reason, cat lovers seem to be preferred prey of the weak-minded. Their 12 year old friends think dead cat jokes are funny, so the rest of the world must, right? :smack:
I see the threadshitting hasn’t stopped either, tho this one is much less objectionable.
I know the internet is important to you, but if he was banned it’s really not equivalent to vigilante killing and dismemberment. In fact, if he was banned he could probably go make himself some tea and browse until he found a site where cat dissection pics are welcomed.
First they came for the dead cat picture posters, and I did nothing…
Yawn
Okay, I’m somewhat confused so far in my encounters with the rules. Are thread-shitting and shock links acceptable here, or not?
He very well could. But he’s not acting all pissy and making footstamping threads about STAFF INACTION and WHATEVER ARE THE MODS GOING TO DO ABOUT THIS SORT OF THING which normally I’d be right behind but today I just don’t see it as being something worth getting that upset about.
He coulda had his account taken over. Or somebody else is using his computer. Or not. Oh, and what Tamerlane said.
Disclaimers: I don’t like cats. I like fanatical cat-loving less than cats, but more than shock links. I didn’t click the link. I don’t wanna click the link.
I have to wonder if Floater is happy with all the attention?
Yeah, great. I’m always impressed by people who are so calm and cool about things they don’t give a shit about.
Yes, people are posting about something that bothered them on a message and asking the people who run the message board to sanction the offender. They aren’t calling a lynch mob to the guys actual house, so shut the fuck up about people over-reacting just because they are reacting more than you. Why don’t you go make some milkshakes, you tool.
Well, I looked at the offending post, and unless the thing was changed (which I doubt), it looked like it came from a “joke” site or “generally offend the reader” site. I haven’t looked at the homepage, but with a name like ooze.com, I have to wonder.
Anyway, I don’t know Floater, and don’t even recognize his name. But I think he meant it as a joke. If you read the picture, it was a suggestion on how to prepare a cat for eating. The cat was dissected and the meat inside was shown, just like you might do if demonstrating how to cook a rabbit.
I noticed a recipe down toward the end of the thing, but I didn’t read the article close enough to know for sure.
In any event, I can understand people being upset, but I think the reaction is a bit over the top. I understand people love their cats (and dogs, and whatnot pets), but I don’t think he was trying to be directly insulting to the OP. She asked for a suggestion on what to do with a found stray, and floater was giving his/her somewhat poorly thoughtout suggestion.
I think it was more like he told an off-colored joke with someone from the offended group in the joke in the audience, and it went over like a lead balloon.
I’m not even sure he broke the two click rule, because I saw nothing “offensive”. (NO boobies on my screen). Certainly, not anything I’d get in trouble over if caught looking at it at work (assuming the person who saw it didn’t realize it was a cat or thought it was some outdoors or hunting article).
I’ve said entirely too much here.
<off topic>The Holocaust was preceded by the Nuremberg Laws, which (among other things) prohibited Jews from owning cats or other pets. And they were also prohibited from giving them away or turning them loose when the laws went into effect. Jews had to deliver their pets to German authorities to be killed. </off topic>
Indeed.
FYI, I’ve posted an official warning to Floater in the original thread.

I like cats (have two) but I had no problem with that link. I LOLed, actually. However, I’ve spent enough time on the internet to understand that most ‘cat people’ are… sensitive. Anyone who spends time on message boards knows this very well. So posting something like that was deliberately mean and rude, therefore deserving of mod action. Especially considering what other things are worthy of mod action here - things I don’t think are nearly as rude as** Floater**'s post.
The problem was the link so much (although it was definitely inappropriate!), but that he just dropped it into the thread without a warning, without telling people what it was. THAT was what upset people the most.
Floater made a dick of himself by posting the link in an inappropriate way.
Czarcasm made a dick of himself by being his usual apologist self for non action by the Mods.
SamClem has restored some sanity.
Life goes on.
Poster was an ass, The rest of the outrage over the link contents is just stupid. It only contains a few photos of a clinical dissection, or taxidermy preparation of a cat. It doesn’t show anything remotely gory, just a couple of skinning photos. Get over it.
For now. But I’m keeping my pitchfork sharp, in the event some would-be wit decides to link to (WARNING! Contents may be shocking and/or offensive to young children and highly sensitive adults. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!!) the scene where Bambi’s mother dies.
