I’m sorry if instant gratification wasn’t available to you, asshole. What I said made perfect sense-if the mod in question isn’t online, then she can’t see any demands from posters, no matter how many times said posters make said demands. Furthermore, it makes perfect sense to anyone capable of thinking beyond “I don’t care-I want it now!” that if a moderator doesn’t immediately do vanity searches after every damn decision they make, there’s a damn good possibility that they might not know that a small bunch of posters are stomping their feet over in ATMB, which is why I suggested sending an IM to her so that she’ll know something’s up once she gets online. And this, “I’m glad the mods finally did something!” crap? It is not a fucking group-mind, and it takes time to hash out what they are going to decide to do, o.k.? There wasn’t any “Non action by the mods”-there apparently was plenty of action behind the scenes that was necessary before the action you finally saw happened.
I think I know why you’re pissed at me-After your claim that you weren’t calling for a banning, I referred people to the title of the thread you made that claim in:
Ban Floater. Or at least action him.
Now, I could use their logic and ask why they aren’t immediately responding to my words, but I can see that at the time of this post both Acid lamp and rachelellogram are not signed on to this board, so that would be a foolish thing to do, wouldn’t it?
I’m very surprised and pleased at the warning for Floater. I didn’t really think it was a warnable offense, much less worthy of banning him. It was just a jerk move, and as such very worthy of the Pit.
Now that my stomach has recovered I’m not nearly as upset by it as I was, but I still think it was a jerk move.
“Ban [… o]r at least action” is not necessarily calling for a banning, but rather calling for action under a kind of which banning is one instance. (I suppose it’s calling for a banning in a sense similar to how “you don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here” is telling someone to go home.)
You’re right, anyway, that people insisted upon action with unreasonable haste. But responding with pissy little rants (1) won’t help and (2) will only make you look like a pissy little ranter who can’t let utterly routine (if unhelpful) moderator criticism slide.

No, people are pissed because he didn’t let them know ahead of time what the fuck it was, dumbass. It was a thread about a stray cat being rescued. Floater came in, and just posted a link of a cat being dissected and skinned. Nothing else, not even a comment.
If he had posted that in a thread about dissections, that’d be one thing. But this was a thread about taking care of a stray cat. WHY did he post it? What was the point of it?

I agree that the joke was in poor taste, but some of the histrionics are a bit much. The linked web site is itself a joke. It ends with this pic, for Christ’s sake. (Safe for work single picture, not the web site itself, of a poor little live dog sitting in a microwave). It’s just gallows humor. It’s not really advocating cooking cats, but it does have a couple of photos of dead cats that looked like they were taken in a college biology lab. That ain’t goatse, and the overreaction says a good deal about the sensitivity of people who love cats perhaps a bit too much.
Will you please read what we were upset about? When the link was first posted, there was no warning and no 2-click. It was just a link, placed in a thread where a poster had found a stray cat. It was disturbing when you weren’t expecting it.

I did read it, I understand the complaints, and I even support them a bit. But people are screaming for banning, they are talking about how “graphic” the “mutilation” is, and there are two threads about it. I’m sorry if unexpectedly seeing a dead animal in a bio lab gives you the vapors, but the response has been disproportionate to the offense. It was gallows humor, and that’s all it ever was.

But this is different. It’s not the pitting that people are labeling histrionic, it’s the call for his banning. Hell, if you look at the ATMB thread, Darth Panda is still advocating suspending him. That’s what’s histrionic.
Have other people who engaged in the same behavior been banned or suspended? I’m asking that honestly, I really don’t know. If so, then I think the calls for consistency are not out of line.
The ATMB thread is entitled “Ban Floater. OR action him” (emphasis mine). Not “Ban Floater. GODDAMMIT BAN HIM AND IF YOU DON’T YOU’RE ALL A BUNCH OF POOPY-HEADS.” The first doesn’t strike me as histrionic.
